iPhone unlocking for free
Hi,
Just before I start, standard disclaimer, I am not responsible for any damage to your iPhone if you act on this posting. I am not involved, other tha a grateful user, and someone disgusted by certain websites.
Today sees the latest (4th Nov 2009) release from hacker geohot (George Holtz) of the unlocking and jailbreaking software for the 3g and 3GS iPhone. Its called Blackra1n and is at Blackra1n.com.
It is important to say that while he does not charge for this, its completely free, there are sadly many scumbags around that simply steal his work and sell it, for up to £30 a time.
A quick search for iPhone unlocking will reveal many scumbags who steal this software and resell it. If you reply to this please don't link to them.
I hope you can help spread the word, it is simple really, don't ever pay for an iPhone unlock, there is no need to.
Kev

As I said in your other post, O2 will allow you to officially unlock your iPhone (for free) once it's available on other networks. See this news story:

A quick question re: the above, how would it work for a PAYG Iphone, for instance if I bought one with o2 would they be able to unlock it upon my request?0

Apologies I have answered my own question http://shop.o2.co.uk/update/unlockmyiphone.html
