OS Daily Thread - Wednesday 4th November

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Wednesday 4th November. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS friends,

Cranky - hope Georges birthday goes well.
Hester - It must make you feel good to know that so many others thought your husband should have got the job.
Bitsy - I thought £12 was a bit of a bargain for 3 months mushrooms... We have harvested all the first ones now - eaten some and stored the rest in a paper bag in the fridge. We normally stick to normal white button mushrooms so having portobello is a bit of a treat.
Janiebaby - I hope you have the result that you want today hon
Lowesy - Hope your hubby gets the answers he wants and can retire. I have a friend working for the NatWest and of course RBS are getting rid of most of the counter staff so she may take early retirement too though as one of the longest serving staff (28 yrs) she would be an expensive option for a payout. She is only 48 so cannot pull the pension til she is 50 but if they offer it to her early she is going to take it.
flutterby - hope you feel better today hon
mrsclarke - There is a pumpkin thread HERE

thankyou.gif all so much for the positive thoughts and prayers for Tris yesterday. The op seemed to go Ok and he logged on to messenger and we chatted a while - was going to ring but said he was being ill and bringing up blood and then about 10 mins later it went quiet and someone typed to tell me he had passed out. Long story short he ended up having a seizure and then back into theatre for emergency surgery. He is stable now and in their version of intensive care. I do appreciate all your support for him.

Have to admit nothing much OS was done yesterday. Today I am not sure either but I would like to make some meatballs and tomato pasta for dinner. Ham salad sandwiches for lunch with this fabulous ham off the bone my OH brought home. My Approved Foods order arrived which is why I was high on sugar and no sleep - the courier came at 0930 and I had to sample some fudge :rotfl:... Then the phone kept ringing.

I am going to look at getting a better deal for my broadband/phone/tv package with Virgin. I re-negociated last year and saved a few £'s and now I need a new international calling rate too so it's time to ring up and see what they can do. I have looked on the website so know what they are offering new customers and will work from there. I also have to ring Amazon about returning a chopping board as we have only had it six months and it has split down the middle.

I will post later when I get more news from America.
I hope you all have a good day. With love, light andghug.gif for everyone who would like one.

  • Morning MSD & all who follow.
Hope you get some good news about Tris soon.
I'm starting work half an hour early for the next few days/weeks depending on work load, too much work coming through at the moment, I've even been given a helper on a daily basis.
I'm having a NSW & so far I haven't spent any money apart from a b'day collection which I'd budgeted for.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Morning all,
MSD my thoughts are with you and I hope Tris continues to do well and has no more setbacks.
I'm off to work shortly. Lunch-veg soup and a sandwich and fruit is packed. We have a rep coming with lunch today but it'll all be 'piggy' stuff so I hope I will resist temptation and stick to my own. Chicken, rice and veges for tea and then an early night as up early for work again tomorrow.
Hugs for those that want/need one.CT.
    July grocery- 24.40/220. NSD-1/3.

    Good morning :D

    Cranky Happy Birthday to George

Diva He's a strong one is Tris! Will keep the prayers up here.

Bitsy Re your soup. I often have the same soup for 4 days or so. I only reheat a bowl at a time though, not the whole pan IYSWIM? Hope your DD is better soon :A

Well it's my first grocery shop of November today so I'm hoping to start as I mean to go on. I've menu planned & have a list, and none of the kids are coming with me ;), so it should be ok. We're having veggie meals 3 nights a week at the moment as a way of keeping the cost down & we're all looking good for it I must say! I have also shaved costs by using Stardrops, bleach & vinegar only for cleaning and hunting for the best deals in soap powder - a big expense here. I shall update my signature later.

Lunch today is leftover rice made into egg fried rice and for tonight we're having lentil dhal & hm naan. It's gorgeous :D

I'd better go and get some porridge made now before the kids pass out from hunger

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning everyone.

DD still poorly - ended up taking her to Dr's yesterday but no chest or ear infection thankfully, just a nasty virus. She was restless from 4am so not much sleep for me this morning.
As such won't be venturing far from the house........which is working out OK - at least I am racking up the NSD so far this week :rotfl:

Tea should be spag bol but I really don't fancy it so will do something else. My mum bought a big bag of spuds and net of onions to share with me so I guess officially yesterday was not a NSD :o but a bargain at £1.19 for the big bag of onions and £4.99 for big bag of spuds (25kg).

Not much else OS going on. Might make some biccies - wasn't impressed with my donut muffins although my mum liked them. Need to clean bathroom and all bedrooms upstairs.

Diva - glad Tris is stable in ICU. Sending positive vibes his way and a hug for you too xx

Cranky - Hope all went well as can be expected yesterday. Thinking of you and George xx

Off to read the rest of yesterdays thread.
Hugs to those that need them.
Have a good day OS or not.

MSD - glad that Tristan is stable.
You have made me want a mushroom kit - will maybe have a wander up the nursery sometime this week.

Another miserable looking day here, have a fair bit of paperwork to get through still but have a treat as have an hopi ear candle session this morning. Really good news as still quite bunged up. You get a sinus massage with it which is really lovely.

Other than that - I must hoover & wash the kitchen floor as its quite gross. Ironing also needs to be done so they are the priorities for today. Have tesco delivering later and nice n easy chicken stir fry for dinner.

    Have a great day.

    Morning chums,
looks a wee bit brighter today than yesterday but who knows anything can happen at the moment the weather is so changeable.
My DGS has an interview for a job this morning so I have everything crossed for him. he has been working there for the past couple of months on an ad hoc basis and HR put him forward for this interview. I have the school run to do for the next three day with the three youngest DGS's as my DD has her work in a block of three this week. DGD loved her work placement from college which she has to do two day a week. She is in a very small private school in the reception class and said the children are gorgeous and so polite. Not a bit like her noisy 4 younger brothers :) Well, time to get a wriggle on, have a good and productive day everyone
    Cheers JackieO xx

    Morning All

Lovely sky here this morning....blue through purple to pink - probably means rain later but its good at the moment!

Made some leek & potato soup in the slow cooker last night with some left over pork stock which is for lunch for me today - smells lovely!

I'm hoping to get my head into work today - I've been really distracted this week and it annoys me! I noticed last night that the office is a tip - there's piles of work everywhere and that's not helping so i'll try and sort through it today and tidy up a bit.

The biscuits and cakes i made at the weekend that were supposed to last the week were finished off yesterday! so might try and get some cookies or hobnobs made tonight to get us to Friday - DS1 is off work today and usually does a good bit of housework for me so hopefully i'll have time tonight.

Hope every has a good day

    Good morning,

Thanks for your kind thoughts for yesterday. It was a beautiful service and the RFA padre did us proud. He did actaully know Paul, and it makes such a difference when the person conducting the funeral knew the person they are talking about. There were a lot of people from the RFA, some in uniform who had traveled a long way to attend, which was very kind.

Apart from one of Paul's family who managed to get the word "me" into every sentence, everyone was very supportive.

George is overjoyed to have reached the grand old age of 5 at last and has gone off to school without grumbling for a change. My sister is going home today, so life will be quiet from tomorrow.

MSD I hope Tris is Ok, and Bitsy I hope DD is better soon and you get some sleep.

    Take care all of you
