Car Phone Warehouse
I visited car phone warehouse to upgrade my phone and was talked into a contract with "free" laptop. When I got home and read everything through, I decided it wasn't what I wanted and was more expensive each month than I thought. When I returned it to the store (unused) after a couple of days, I was told there was no cool off period and that Orange wouldn't allow the contract to be cancelled as I didn't buy it on line. Am I stuck with it or can I get out of the contract?

Shop brought purchases do not have a cooling off period, only online purchases due to distance selling regulations. It does seem a bit unfair due to the sales pitch they hammer at you, but it is at the stores discretion to cancel. I would ask to speak to the store manager, or get contact details of the area manager and speak to them.
They get paid on commission so they don't want you to return and cancel contracts. Whilst purchased via Car Phone Warehouse have you considered contacting orange and put your case to them. Orange number is 07973 100 150 (use any phone but the one you had otherwise it becomes used)

How do I make a return or exchange?
Just pop into any Carphone Warehouse store. You 'll need to bring:
Your product in it's original condition and packaging.
All the accessories and other content that came with the product.
Proof of purchase.
Any free gifts that came with the product.
But varies on a network by network basis.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

Orange have not offered a cooling off period instore (both orange shops and indepedents) for some time and unfortunately for yourself they don't have to.
Also them wanting to cancel has nothing to do with the way they pay their staff as
