What can I do if I need to copy a film and it is over 2 hrs and the dvd-r I am using can record only 2 hrs. Recently I copied a dvd for personal back up and it's one of my own but I missed the end as it is over 2 hrs. Thanks

You need to change the bit rate of the film,
1.) record the film to be copyed onto your Hard disk
2.) Use a tool like nero re encode to change the file size to 4.5 Gb
3.) Burn the DvdTo alcohol! The cause of... and solution to... all of life's problems!:beer:0 -
CloneDVD and RatDVD will do it but there will a reduction in quality from what I heard due to a lower bitrate.
However I am not sure if such software is legal in the UK since I think copying is supposed to be illegal??
Anyone can clarify this as UK copyright laws are confusing(or at least to me they are)!0 -

If its a "real" Movie it will be copyright software protected. Nether Nero or Clone DVD will copy protected DVDsTo alcohol! The cause of... and solution to... all of life's problems!:beer:0 -
I suppose that means one will have to "break" the protection - does this mean Nero can do this??0

You can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.0

Hi
This program will shrink your original dvd to a standard 4.5gb dvd, and then you can copy it.

Hope this helps0 -
you need to re-incode the dvd so's that it fits on the discs.
not as intimidating as it sounds, honest
easiest prog to use is DVD Shrink
Download the freeware version here
you simply select the disc type you want to burn to in the options (4.9G dvd - r or whatever)and then tell it to "backup".
it'll rip your original disc, then spit it out and ask for a blank disc, then burn the blank disc
Any questions at all feel free to ask, (unlike others on this board) I don't judge
if you need, I'll post a guide with pics for you"If you really want to hurt your parents and you don't have nerve enough to be homosexual, the least you can do is go into the arts."0 -
3 steps in backing up a DVD
Rip the original to our hard drive, I use DVD decrypter, you will need 7GB+ of drive space for this, it can remove region coding amongst other things
re-encode the large rip to a smaller rip that will fit on a DVDr I use many apps but the easiest is dvd shrink, dvd santa is pretty good too.
you will be left with another set of files which you can then either use dvd santa or nero to create a DVD from them.
I have been dong this for ages and tried loads of methods, the above is the easiest with the exception of clone DVD but that does have some disadvantages, I used to lend my dvd collection to people and I was really !!!!!! off that disks were being returned scratched so I backed the ones up people wanted to borrow and they borrowed the backup.0
