Record train fare

"Cross Country Trains, which sells the ticket, said an advance fare was available for £561."
Like we're supposed to believe that's cheap too! Could drive that distance 4 times and it would still be cheaper, lol.0 -
A bit of a pointless fare really considering you can buy a First Class 7 day All Rail Rover for £650 which would cover this journey.Did you really mean to put loose?
Lose: no longer possess, not to retain, unable to find
Loose: not firmly or tightly fixed in place0 -
I'll bet the ticket sellers don't advise customers of this though and happily take the 1 grand!AirlieBird wrote: »A bit of a pointless fare really considering you can buy a First Class 7 day All Rail Rover for £650 which would cover this journey.0 -
No they probably wouldn't, I've been selling train tickets for almost ten years and I have yet to be in a situation where it would be cheaper to buy an all line rover than the ticket requested by the customer. All Line Rail Rovers are so rarely sold that very few clerks know how much they cost and would therefore not think to offer them should it be necessary.
It has been established that the demand for first class travel between Newquay and Kyle Of Lochalsh is almost certainly non-existant so I don't quite get why so much fuss is being made about something that nobody ever buys, it all seems like outrage purely for the sake of it.Employee of a National Rail train company.0 -
Or I'm sure an over 60 could manage it on free bus pass (plus b n b's) if they had the time or the inclination. I wonder how long that'd take? Could be quite a nice holiday if you like buses!
Alas no - bus passes are valid only in the country in which they are issued, so your over 60 would come to an abrupt halt at (or just after) the Scottish border.
People have done it from Lands End to Berwick in under a week IIRC.0 -
I had a good giggle at this. I had a look on trainline.com (just being nosy
) and the journey takes something like 28 hours -
I mean come on, is anyone SERIOUSLY going ot buy this ticket?? :rotfl:*The RK and FF fan club* #Family*Don’t Be Bitter- Glitter!* #LotsOfLove ‘Darling you’re my blood, you have my heartbeat’ Dad 20.02.200 -
Just had a look at the map. That's one remote railway line!0

Bet you someone from the Daily Mail does this in the next week or so.
Despite politics, wars, disasters, etc, they always feel the need for drivel to fill up the middle 20-30 pages
Only the middle pages??:rotfl:The front page is usually pretty dire.
This topic has also been covered on a rail forum where it is stated that this ticket has never actually been sold to anyone. It has to exist for regulatory purposes.0
