I've never understood why people have these "baby on board" signs either. I usually get the urge to say "so ?" If they are meant to make the driver behind drive slower/with more care etc. so as to lessen the likelihood of an accident, then shouldn't we all have a sticker saying "human on board". Every life is precious, not just a baby's.

As for the ones that say things like "Babe on Board", they are cringeworthy and not to mention, immodest (and invariably, there usually isn't anyway!):rotfl:

I'm not the seller mentioned in this post, but I also sell personalised baby on board signs on eBay, and it's interesting to see all the different comments and opinions posted here. I won't post a link to my auctions as thats against site rules, but my eBay user ID is the_wandering_shop

We started selling them as the ones in baby shops usually cost about £5 or more which seems like a total rip-off. We've sold loads of them since we started a few months back, and they are a really popular item so obviously not everyone thinks they're 'pukeworthy'! We also sell a lot of different designs as well as the baby on board signs such as 'Little monsters on board', 'arsenal/man u/liverpool etc.. supporter on board' and we've recently started selling 'come on england' signs which I think look a lot better than those 'orrible 'car flags' that everybody has on their car!! We also give people an opportunity to design their own sign so if people want to they can have a totally unique sign (we recently had an order for 'Hormonal !!!!! on board!!')

I think the base idea bahind them is that if you were in an accident, people would know to check the car for children so in a way I think they are a good safety item. Also, it's not illegal to have a sign in the back of your window as long as it doesn't obstruct vision, so what's the harm in having one??

Judging by the feedback we've received the people that buy them really like them, so these are defintely a marmite product. :)

I agree they're either a "love it or hate it" thing! And the only harm in having one is if it annoys other motorists enough to enrage them (try driving through Liverpool with a "Manchester United Supporter on Board" sign) or obscures vision.
The example (Princess Kaci on Board) you show on eBay is certainly positioned to do the latter; it blocks out the area of screen just where an overtaking motorbike would be.
I don't agree with the argument that showing what your child's name is would encourage paedophiles. In the really unlikely event that you were to encounter one they would just have to wait for you to call your child by its name anyway. It's purely on the issues of safety and taste.
    Can I help?

I agree that it obscures vision and I hadn't even thought that the reason for them is so that people check for a baby in an accident.

So presumeably, if you don't have a sign up, the emergency services won't even bother looking in the back seat for a child.....ridiculous as they are trained to check all areas, the same as in a house.

Has anyone put a sign on their house yet saying "baby indoors" in case of a fire?

Also, people who call their child 'babe' are usually the ones who dress them in adult style clothes when they are about 8 or something.

Obviously the emergency services would check everywhere as they are well trained, but I suppose maybe an untrained passer by might see the driver but might not spot a small child in the back??

Also my pic probably isn't the best example as I 've put it a bit too high, but if it was put a few inches lower then it wouldn't be obstructing vision.

Anything placed anywhere on a rear windscreen is an obstruction like someone I just drove behind who had 3 annoying England World Cup signs in the rear window.
Why not just have a sign saying "You too can be a chav!! "
