    Hi OP

I would be fuming too. In my experience, it may be that the HoY did not warn the teachers or left them a note in a pigeonhole when it was too late for the teachers to check (you know, at 8.44 when lessons start at 8.45:rolleyes:). When I was a teacher, I always had pupils who would go to me and say that they could not write, etc, but no word from the Head of Year . I trusted my pupils though and would never shout at them, even if I doubted their story!

I would ask the Head of Year to write a note in your son's planner so that he can show this note to all his teachers at the start of the lesson.

Your son should also be allowed either a laptop or someone to write for him. Or at the very least, the Head of Year should be photocopying the notes taken by a classmate of his.

Hope the problem is sorted quickly.
  • If he's possibly having surgery on right hand as well then he could be out of action for some time so the sooner he learns to write left handed the better really.
Remember some people have to learn to write with their feet or mouth !

Surely unless he tries to write with his left hand he won't know if he can? :)

Also - OP did your son state they have told him AFTER his broke his wrist that he had to write with it? Or is he going on assumption from being in trouble if he doesn't write based on before his wrist problem? Was he actually shouted at or is it his class mates who have told him he'll be shouted at? It COULD just be a misunderstanding :)

He needs to start practising with his left hand and make the effort to write. Or ask for a computer so that he can type up anything he needs to write down. Or make sure he gets copies of notes from another student.

A teacher shouldn't be shouting at him for this. But don't take him out of school either - that won't solve anything - and will only mean he misses lessons.

hi he has tryed with his left hand but finds it very hard, and very messy, to read ect, dont get me wrong i have no problem with him attending school so he doesnt miss out on lessons and told him to try with his left hand, but feel that this isnt acceptable, i am waiting for HOY to call me as shes in a lesson at mo. i have no problem with them giving him notes on each lesson for him to copy up at home so if he cant keep up in class he can finish writing up work with his left hand at home...( as it takes him a lot longer) IYKWIM !

  • Surely they can just photocopy another students work or ask a TA to scribe for him if it is an important writing task? There are other options other than just writing.

firstly they can a should provide a laptop thingy when i say thingy its because i forgot what is called its ike a keybound that keeps a memory of what you type the you print it of it dosent have a screen (sorry i hope u can undersatnd) i hope you get it sorted
  • I have just grabbed a pen and written with my left hand

"I want to know how easy it is to write with my left hand".

Even though I could read what i wrote, despite being messy, even half way through my wrist, elbow and shoulder were aching.

I hope your lad doesn't have to do too much writing too soon and he builds it slowly to allow new muscles to grow stronger.

I wonder if it was actually at him the teacher was shouting, if several members of the class weren't writing when they were meant to I could see a teacher saying 'all of you pick up your pens and write', your son thinking it included him and the teacher assuming he'd know he wasn't in that 'all of you'

Could you get a cheap or second hand dictaphone or see if they have one at the school they can lend him so he can get the lessons still. He could try with his left hand too so they see he is making some form of effort (and the other kids in his class wont go "But X isn't doing it, why should i?"
