likely cost repair to washer dryer

I am at the end of my tether with my Hotpoint Washer dryer, it is actually only 2 years old and I don't want to be wasteful or extravagant but I am seriously considering just giving up on it and getting a new one and forgetting the whole sorry Hotpoint saga.

The machine is unreliable, I have fault after fault with it, all different though and rarely the same problem twice. I did have an extended guarantee with it but the company went bust and no one would take the guarantee on.

The latest issue with it is I have no heat, this isn't a problem for washing as i can do most with cold water and anything needing a hot wash goes to the launderette once a week, but I miss the tumble dryer part (no heat means no drying).

I am completely not a practical person, does having no heat sound expensive to fix?

My issue is that most repair people I have used won't come back again as they know I will be straight back on the phone when it breaks and don't want to get involved.

I never realised it was possibly to dislike a piece of furniture so much.

Contact Hotpoint directly and tell them how you feel.

I've complained to companies in the past after having bad service/faulty goods etc. If you are polite but persuasive you can almost get what you want.

Sorry! I can only think of 2 ways to read that, neither of which is very good. Does it mean all the tradesmen in your area know your machine is a “rogue” and it’s never going to work properly?
Or does it mean that they all know you?
Sorry if I’ve misread what you said.
With the number of breakdowns you have experienced so far I would at least have a bash at replacing the heater element myself in the certain knowledge that if I can’t fix it myself I would have to buy a replacement.
If you don’t feel able to give it a bash then it seems to me you have no choice but to buy new.

They are always happy to book an appointment they tell me not to worry then when I remind them of directions to get to the house it all goes quiet. They usually then say 'the Hotpoint?' and then remember they are going out of the country for several weeks and can't come after all.

It doesn't help that every one that comes asks me about previous repairs and when I show them the folder of receipts and they see that every bit of every part has been replaced they go very pale and often run away at that point. The last but one man was so cross with the machine that he swore at it and even aimed a kick at it, knocked it off the brick he was using to balance it tipped back and sat back completely demolishing a kitchen cabinet by wrneching the door away from the main frame and taking all the wood with it. He did knock a couple of pounds of the bill for that damage!

I've decided not to get it repaired though as I can't find anyone to do it. I'll manage for a few months with washing in cold water and using the launderette for the rest.
