Evening internet very slow

Hi all, I'm Jaxt's partner who plays the online game called Battlefield 2.
I play (and help donate) on a Chicago based server run by Hypernia. My ping when stable is approx 130ms but on a weekend it sits around 200+ and even rockets to over 400-500 at times. Of course when this happens I get kicked from the server as we set a limit to 252 ping to help control lag.
I know playing on a more local server would be better but even when I do, I am still at a disadvantage to other players local to me because of my connection. This has become worse over the last few months and I realise that internet traffic can cause bad connections but I have to wait until midnight/1am to actually get a game with my online buddies now.
I never had to suffer like this before and don't see why I should now, I pay the same bill every month but now get a sub-standard service. I do not download many files such as torrents etc, although our son does 'sometimes' but sure it wouldn't be enough to jeopardize our fair usage policy.
As stated above, my internet speeds have been ok (far better than my previous ISP - Force9/Plusnet) but the stability is poor.
These are my speeds at 4pm 3rd November followed by a TRACERT to the Chicago based server where I play my game...

Not a happy bunny at this moment in time.
This is what I was about to ask - where you are connecting too.
You may be getting home from work - whilst America awakens, issue may not be the local speed but the remote end and number of connections they are serving.0 -

I work permanent nights, Mon-Thurs. sometimes 2-10 on Fridays so that is why I play at the Americans peak times. Because the server is US based, I try to get it populated with Europeans in the day (UK time) but my connection is getting worse, even as early as 2pm.
Orange have not as yet replied to two emails I sent them apart from the automated ones. There is a drop down menu which asks what operating system you are using before sending the email and Windows 7 is not even listed !!!0 -
well i tried BT Speedtester as instructed from 1800hrs - 2100hrs and i couldn't even complete the test!!!
I have just done my morning one and have got 3192kbps download speed.0 -
I am trying to run the speedtester as advised by Orange but I stumble when it asks my username. Am I supposed to be registered with this site as any name I enter comes up with an error.

my logon is:

So, your email: example@smith123.freeserve.co.uk would be
smith123.freeserve.co.uk@fs

Can you log on to your router and post your line statistics.

Thanks for that. I didn't realise that would be the username required.
So I am playing my online game from 2pm (Friday 6th Nov.) and all is well but as soon as 4pm arrives, my ping goes into warp factor 7. From a nice 126 to an unplayable 260. I get kicked from our server for high ping and probably won't be able to play again until 11-12pm.
I did my first Speedtester at 4:45pm and the speed is good but why does my ping rocket so high?
Please bear in mind that this has not always been the case but only for the last four or five months.

How do I find the line stats?0 -
By clicking on the link above. (Its in Blue) and follow the instructions. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Is this the relevant info?
0 -
Yup that';s the info.
Shows you have a maximum 8mb download.
I stand by my earlier comment though, may find it's the server end that is struggling to meet demand - and the pipe that sit between the two countries.
In the evenings - America is awakening. Over the weekend - there is less business use.
When you have a slow reponse to your Chicago Server, as an experiment - try some local servers and note the difference - if any.
Also pick a server in the East when it will be the middle of the night.0
