Evening internet very slow

Hey all,

I've been with Orange for many years now for my ISP and am on the BB Max package. No problems with downloading/connection speeds during the day, but come 5pm onwards i cannot get above 50kbps for downloading and i cannot even connect to games due to my ping been so high!

I had this once and contacted Orange who stated that it was due to the amount of users sharing the same exchange, they then changed me to a less used line and that solved the problem.

However, here we are again, i have contacted Orange who state that they cannot see anything wrong on my account.

What is the correct term for moving to a less used line?! Or does anyonee have any advice/suggestions?

Does sound like traffic shaping or congestion on the exchange....keep badgering them in the hope that they can improve their feed to your exchange. Just a thought, have you maybe exceeded your useage allowance or breached their (highly restrictive) Fair Useage Policy ?? People who do are savagely restricted at peak times.......

This the exact same problem we are facing we are in the Goole area and Orange are supposed to have ther own quota for their line from our exchange but my partner who games on a night fri to sun is constantly getting kicked due the ping. So annoying

Decent speeds offpeak and slow speeds during peak periods are invariably down to the ISP (and virtually never the exchange which is used as a convenient whipping boy by ISPs).

The only solution is to move ISP and make sure that you research where to go carefully before moving. Making a decision based only on price will almost inevitably just take you to another lemon.

Looks like a similar problem to my thread. I moved from orange to o2 as they increased their charges to £25, wish I stayed now!

Are you getting your Orange service via BT or LLU?
You can find out by doing an exchange search on the Samknows website.
It may well be that especially with BT you are suffering from throttling in the evenings.
However can you log on to your router and post your line statistics.

Even their LLU isn't highly regarded.

Hi all, I'm Jaxt's partner who plays the online game called Battlefield 2.
I play (and help donate) on a Chicago based server run by Hypernia. My ping when stable is approx 130ms but on a weekend it sits around 200+ and even rockets to over 400-500 at times. Of course when this happens I get kicked from the server as we set a limit to 252 ping to help control lag.
I know playing on a more local server would be better but even when I do, I am still at a disadvantage to other players local to me because of my connection. This has become worse over the last few months and I realise that internet traffic can cause bad connections but I have to wait until midnight/1am to actually get a game with my online buddies now.
I never had to suffer like this before and don't see why I should now, I pay the same bill every month but now get a sub-standard service. I do not download many files such as torrents etc, although our son does 'sometimes' but sure it wouldn't be enough to jeopardize our fair usage policy.
As stated above, my internet speeds have been ok (far better than my previous ISP - Force9/Plusnet) but the stability is poor.

These are my speeds at 4pm 3rd November followed by a TRACERT to the Chicago based server where I play my game...

Similar problem here, ISP leases from BT Wholesale, severe throttling from 6pm to midnight, best time for gaming is around 01:00 ping is dire from 6pm on. And Gordon thinks we can all watch TV on IPlayer on a 2Meg connection.
