We set ours at 16 degrees but we have a multi-fuel fire so we tend to stick to the main living area and open the doors to the rest of the house when necessary.

I've moved to 19oC so far this year - but then again it hasn't been proper cold yet. May nudge it to 19.5. However this is the temperature in the coldest room in my house - the dining room. The living room will be up at 21, whilst the bedrooms around 19. So what one person is setting may have no odds to your own.

ours was usually around the 20 degree mark but since we have had the loft insulation done it gets too hot if left on 15 .

Hi, we normally have ours on around 15-18 degrees and turn it up for a blast if really cold.
We tend to have it on in the mornings until we go to work and the evenings when we get back. But it's really cold until the house warms up and I thought I had heard that it's cheaper to leave the heating on all the time in the winter at a lower temp (i don't know maybe 12 degrees?) than pay to keep turning it up and down.
Has anyone tried this? Would like to give it a go but don't want to get stuck with a massive bill cos we got it wrong in 3 months!!!!!! What temp worked for you? We have a 3 bed semi with new wall insulation, loft insulation and double glazing. Downstairs is normally quite warm but upstairs can be really chilly I think mainly as there's no radiator in the hallway and that's the outside wall.
    Any thoughts appreciated! Thanks.

my stat is in the draughty hall and set to 17 most of the time but often as not at the mo the heating isn't coming on toget it to that - blast it upto 19 occassionally and then the whole house feels roasting.

We have 10 inches of loft insulation ,full double glazing , newish combi boiler and rads , I keep the heating on for 14 hours a day because I have a disabled husband who cant move about too much. We have the heating during the day at 20, and if its cooler of a evening it will go to where ever its comfortable .I dont have any heat in the bedroom because I like the window open 24/7 . We also dont have the heating on of a night . I love the flexibility of gas central heating its so quick and easy to use , as with storage heaters which ive had to have in other homes because theres not been mains gas , find them very expensive and you dont get the heat when you really need it and find them really expensive to run, plus you have to look at the weather forecast the night before to see if you need to turn them up or down for the next days weather . I pay by DD and find it very reasonable, I think most people heat their homes to the temp what suits them best.

Currently 19.5 but the thermostat is in the coldest room, and I usually use a wood burner in the evening to help keep us toasty. Later when darkest winter hits I *may* up it to 21 in the day and 17 overnight but thats only if its freezing/snowing.

Don't have a thermostat on the wall but all radiators are on (need to control them one by one)....no idea what temp it is.
