Really curious as to how your mother could possibly be getting £150 per week on Income support
If she was getting carers allowance then she would only be entitled to about £40.70 Income support per week.
Would £150 be about the right amount that a lone parent with a dependent disabled child would receive? (lone parent amount + dependent child + disability premium of some sort).I don't really know anything about income support but a brief look at the directgov website made me think this might be the case.
In which case it all starts to make sense. The question would then be whether it was the fault of the DWP or the mother that income support continued to be paid as though her child was dependent after the start of the IB/careers etc. claim.0 -

Probably qwertyuiop.
My income support went up by around another £70 when I started claiming the severe disablement premium. I've no idea what level of DLA the OP is claiming and of course there are different premiums, but it would make sense if it was IS and SDP

I didn't think you could get SDP if you get carersProbably qwertyuiop.

Maybe DX2 - actually, I think you have a point there.
No-one claims carers on my behalf, but you saying that has triggered something and yes, I've a feeling you're right. There is something delicious about writing the first words of a story. You never quite know where they'll take you - Beatrix Potter0 -

Lone parent Income support gets £64.30 + a carer premium £29.50 = £93.80.
Now because the lone parent claims carers allowance this is then deducted from their Income support £53.10 which would then leave only £40.70 eligible from Income support.*SIGH*

This is the point that I was trying to make in my posts 61 and 62.
Mother with a dependent disabled little child = £150 income support
Mother (carer) and an older disabled child on IB = £40 income support (plus the carers money and the kids IB)
For some reason the people organising the income support payment don't realise the change in situation. Hence overpayment of £150 - £40 = £110 a week, for nearly two and half years. Hence total overpayment of £14k.
The essential point here (with regards to the repayment) is whether it was the fault of the DWP or the mother that this mistake occured.0
