carrentals.com - No CDW included in cost

Just a quick warning to people (I have seen some other posts mentioning the same).
carrentals.com (which appears in kayak.com searches) does not include Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) in the hire cost.
(Collision damage waiver is the insurance that will provide cover for damage to the rented vehicle).
I noticed this when checking two car hire reservation confirmations on the actual car hire company reservation system (Budget / Alamo).
A quick call to both hire companies confirmed this and to add it would have effectively doubled the cost of the car hire.
I would have been livid had I discovered this when picking up the cars.

The moral is do not rent a car from a company whose web site and marketing is aimed solely at American renters. They don't include it because most Americans are already insured for the CDW by other means and don't want to pay twice.
Glad you spotted it.0 -

Can I also mention to people that First Choice use Alamo in there package holidays. Alamo do not mention the excessive extra charges on picking the car up, they do state that you are NOT insured and urge you to take extra insurance. Upon your return when you get back to the UK you will be debited for over $700, this happenened to me and I have taken it up with First Choice. As it stands I am waiting for First Choice to get back to me, they advise to allow upto 28 days. In our local First Choice travel agents they confirmed that all their package holidays that include hire cars are fully insured.0 -
Car rental compainies will always try and sell you more.
If you have "full" coverage they'll try and get you to take some breakdown cover or a sat nav.
I live in the US now but when I used to travel over here I always used https://www.netflights.com for my car rental. All insurance included with these. I had an accident where someone ran in to me. Never paid a penny excess.
I also hear carhire3000.com is cheap. But whenever I've compared them netflights come out cheaper.
An "economy" car sets you back about £15 - £20 a day. Most locations don't have "economy" cars so you get an upgrade to an compact / intermediate and these cars are the same size as a family car back in the UK.
If you're on a short rental (one or 2 days) it's worth upgrading to get the free tank of gas if you're going to be driving quite a bit.0
