Free hosting and domain

Options
Hi guys ,

I'm looking for a service that provides free web hosting and free .com/co.uk/.biz/ or other domains.

I dont really want one of those sub domain like "www.yoursite.57777f66fhg.com " cos they just look unproffesional.

I simply need to upload one page with 300+ jpg/gif images so there doesnt need to be that much hosting space.

Oh and also i'd prefer it without ads.

I know i'm being picky but any help is appreciated even if you dont think it'l help.

Cheers

i havent seen anywhere that gives out free ".com .co.uk .biz" at all, unless you sign up for their web-hosting (that costs about £2.49 per month). If you have 300+ pictures you want to put up, you have to take into concideration of how much usage your site will create, for example, my hosting package gives me 10,000MB of space, but only 100MB of data transfer a month. (this is a rubbish free hosting package when i bought my domain)

Put simply, if a picture is 1MB, only 100 people would be able to view that picture from your website a month, then the site would be deactivated. This limit also includes any texts or anything else you want put on it.

You could always link the pictures to your website rom photobucket or somewhere tho, that would decrease your usage, but going back to the origional query, good luck on that hunt for a ad-free, free professional domain and hosting company.

(that last but gave it away why it would be impossible, companies provide it, and they need money!)

    Hope that helps slightly

Is this a business or hobby site?

At the end of the day you get what you pay for.

You can buy the domain from the likes of 123-reg.co.uk and then do a framed forward to your actual page on any of the normal free webhosts.

The major problem with the old "free domain/ free hosting" that you used to get was the fact the hosting company owned the domain not you so if you ever outgrew the hosting or fell out with them they charged you upwards of £100 for releasing the domain.

  • Buy your domain name from here https://www.123-reg.co.uk and your web hosting from here https://www.dataflame.co.uk/index.html

The 200 MB Disk Space and 10 GB Data Transfer packages are more than sufficient.

Ok ... not entirely free but very cheap.

ICANN charge for domain names so you are never going to get one for free, unless you piggyback off another company's website - hence the long names.

Secondly as others have said, free and even cheaper packages limit bandwidth. If you think your site isn't going to have too much web traffic then this may not be an issue. If your site goes over its bandwidth limit then nobody will see your site until the month has ended, and even then somebody may assume your site is dead because its been offline when they looked so won't bother looking again.

    Hi Guys - thnakyou all,

the site i will be making is a business sites where other business and companys can display their logos in jpg/gif formaat with dimensions of 300x300 pix. so i reckon each pic will be 50kb so therfore 300x50 = 15000kb = 15mb of pics plus maybe 3mb of test/other images. I am presuming though if each image has a hyperlink that takes up negligible space.

The page is meant to act as a portal or personal homepage with many useful sites eg search engines. A user can click on the site image and be directed to their homepage. So i expect maybe 100 visitors a week.

Now i'm no good at workin out all this traffic and stuff so could you please advise further based on this ^ stuff.

    Cheers

I wouldn't so much worry about web traffic at the moment, but just pay for a hosting package that can easily be upgraded in terms of bandwidth and storage space. I pay $120 for the year for my unlimited bandwidth package, but they do cheaper unlimited packages that have less programming options.

Another thought is that PHP (Linux hosted) packages tend to be cheaper than Windows packages.

Perhaps these? They look professional enough, but I couldn't vouch for them:

Do you use them? I'd be interested to hear if they are any good because that does sound unbelievably cheap.
