Is using Paypal really always safe?

Hi,

I found a high Value Item on Ebay that I would like to buy, but somehow I am worried about the Seller.

The Item is at least £100 cheaper then anywhere else. The seller is registered as a UK Business Seller and has about 70 feedbacks, which appear to be real as they are all from different buyers that all have decent amount of feedback themself. All the Items the seller has so far sold are in some way related (accesories) to the Item I want to buy, but of a much lower Value (<£15), But now he is suddenly selling several of these higher priced items, which sets my Alarm Bells off.

But he accepts Paypal. If I take the plunge and pay by Paypal, will I def. be covered if anything goes wrong? Or does Paypal make it very difficult to claim in case he is a scammer?

Paypal overall is the safest way to to buy on ebay (not off ebay though) But like anything you need to be careful and use some common sense. If you are not 100% happy with a seller don't buy especially on High price items

i personally regard paypal to be one of the least safe methods of payment in existence and would recommend that you use a credit card if possible to make the payment, that way if there is a problem your credit card company will refund you while paypal are still scratching their ar5se and asking you to fax/email every conceivable piece of information they can think of while in reality doing very little to help you.

Some Credit card companies will not refund if you pay via paypal on ebay. As a buyer if the item does not arrive the seller has to prove it has been delivered. So you don't have to do anything. if the item is not as described you just need to return it to the seller tracked and paypal will refund.

Confused90 has obviously had some personal run ins, but probably if you look into the details most paypal problems are caused by people not understanding there procedures. As a buyer paypal is incredibly safe on ebay. Most sellers though would rather have cash or bank transfers (but with these methods there is no comeback for the buyer)

Custardy your question is answered in the post of mine which you quoted....

if it's a substantial amount use a credit card to pay, i know cyberbob has mentioned that some credit card companies might not cover you where paypal is concerned but the important word in that post is SOME.

most card companies will cover you and you can always make a quick call to your credit card provider to make sure your covered before making the purchase.

That's what I think other posters meant when they asked about using credit card instead of paypal. You are using paypal, just funding it via a credit card.

Whilst some card companies will allow a claim some will not and the debate on many threads rumbles on. I always back my purchases on paypal with a card on the basis that it can't hurt.

However, the question you were asked was how to use a credit card on ebay , not how to use paypal. Some sellers do use credit cards but most do not have the facilities.

Doh, i know, but if it all goes a bit pete tong you can stick in a claim with your card company, not sure if your card company will allow it? ask first as many will....do we need argue this point more?

it seems some people just want to go round in circles to me.
