A refund is processed different to a debit. A debit goes through straight away as it needs to be authorised and it will be held on your bank account as an outstanding authorisation for up to seven days (usually a lot less) until the companies claim the funds, but a refund can take up to seven days to show on your account from the day it is processed. Daft I know but thats why a refund takes longer than a debit.
Hope this helps explain why it took so long, even if it cant help you get the money back quicker, what ever happens now I would write a letter to your local stores manager and ask for compensation ( they must be able to add points on at their discretion!!!).
I am glad it sounds as though your day is getting a bit better though.

Hmm. Asda seem to have a better system. They don't debit me until after they've delivered. AND if they have to sub something for a higher priced item, I still get it at the lower price.Debt free 4th April 2007.

One thing which I didnt find out until recently, i brought something from Tesco (cant remember what it was) but it was BOGOF offer and on the tills they when through as 2 full priced products. I took my reciept to CS and not only did they correct the error but they refunded me the full price of the product and let me have both for free!!!! that is what i call a result!!!
I got chatting to the lady in CS and she said that is store policy to give the product free if the mistake is the stores. I havent read up on anything but it might be worth looking into to see if you can get you shopping for free as they are at fault.
Hope this helps0 -

Last time I did an online Tesco shop they didnt deliver about £10 worth of the stuff I ordered but they also didnt charge me for something. It must have been a computer error at their end or something and half my shop didnt arrive. But seeing as they also didnt charge me for it I let it go, did my shop in Iceland and said to myself I won't shop online at Tesco again. As well as that I like to browse all the reduced stuff and you can't do that whilst shopping online.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040
