Property in Bulgaria - A Good investment?

So, anyone any thoughts on Conrads post Re:Morrocco? Had a quick look at the website and think it's probably more than we were looking to invest (100k+ minimum for 2 bed apt) - hence the attraction of Bulgaria which appears a lot cheaper. However, suppose its all relative if the risk of losing out is higher with the cheaper option.....

Ive seen conrads posts before, either hes trying to encourage people to be looking at the site ( marketing?) or hes very pleased with his decision (I would be too) so maybe a pit of both

Have YOU holidayed in Bulgaria before. I wasnt being vicious earlier, but most people who I know who come back think its grotty. What you want to invest in is a resort where people come back time & again & recommend thier families/ freinds etc. I just dont think bulgarias it from a strawpoll of my mates etc. DO YOU want to holiday in what seems to be a massive building site. ONly YOU can work out the pros & cons, but other posters make some good points about costs/ overheads & rentability. My fear is, if you cant rent it, will you be able to ever sell it?

I would sooner holiday in MOrocco than Bulgaria any day if thats any help to you

Have you holidayed in Morocco? When I was in Marrakesh, many of the properties had armed security guards. A good investment market well maybe but as always buyer beware, even if it is nailed down they will steal it.

I can't think where people get the idea that Bulgaria would be a great "place to invest"...

Oh yes I can - it's plastered everywhere on the underground, on buses and on billboards.

Ssssh! But don't tell anyone. It's an undiscovered goldmine...

Can anyone tell me whether this land grab took place during the last property boom? I seem to remember sitcoms about expats around that time - The Sun Trap anybody? - but the focus was mainly on Spain and Greece, I think.

Seems that having 3 BTLs in the UK isn't enough to keep up with the Joneses anymore.

By the way PSSST! Next property hotspot? Iran. No really.

Probably not going to bother, was only ever at the "idea" stage and all things considered probably wont go any further than that. Still, made for an interesting thread for a few days...

Sorry you thought my post unhelpful.

The point I was trying to make was that, once the crowd is aware of a "hidden goldmine", it's probably time to move on.

If you're a Londoner you can't fail to know that there's a "Bulgarian Expo" on right now, as the ads are literally everywhere.

So at least 6 million people are aware of Bulgaria. And you make 6million +1.

Im with you on this one MeanMachine.

Only this morning I had a pamphlet through the door from Atlas properties in Spain, showing that its outperformed every other investment going. Somehow I just dont believe them :rolleyes:

Nope - everyone know you've just got to get that "place in the sun " before they've all gone!!!!

As a matter of interest 50% more Briits have bought a home abroad since 2000 !

I own an apartment in Sunny Beach (bought 3 years ago) . Just came back from holiday there and had a great time.

Plenty of good cheap bars and restaurants, and 8Km of Sandy beach.

The truth is that they are still building, but not in the centre. Didn't really notice it too much. Don't rely on rentals to cover the mortgage, but an apartment for pocket money isn't going to break the bank. (for me anyway)
