It's my husbands 30th birthday in january and i'd love to get us tickets to one of the grand prix's next year, either Uk one of the european destinations.
we're going on honeymoon in march so won' have a great deal of money in the months following this so has anyone got any tips on getting the cost down for these, it's very pricey!
thanks for any help

From my understanding the Belgium Grand Prix is the cheapest. Plus if you booked early and did a channel crossing and drove you may be able to get a good deal.0

If you go here, www.formula1.com it can give you a comparison of the different Grands prix.
NONE of the formula 1 race meetings are anyone's idea of a cheap day out. However, speaking as an F1 fan, Belgium is a pretty special track from a spectators & Driver's point of view.
I've been there twice & each time, I spent the best part of £500 for the weekend. But, that was not trying to do things with a MSE attitude! We flew from Heathrow to Brussells & stayed there for 2 nights & drove down to Spa on raceday in a hire car. It's VERY difficult to secure decent accomodation anywhere near the track, even when planning a year ahead.
I would suggest that the cheapest way to do this would be to go to Silverstone (assuming there is a GP there next year) & again, from a spectators point of view, Stowe corner at the end of Hangar Straight, is great for both view & noise. However, this is an uncovered grandstand section, so you're at the mercy of the weather.
Silverstone does book up very quickly, so if & when the race is confirmed, sort it out asap.Donedoingdebt Lightbulb moment January 2000. Debt at highest approx £102,000. Debt now (October 2009 - absolutely fork all!!!)

assuming there is a british gp in 2010 going to that will be cheapest - and might be least hassle for your first formula 1 experience
i would suggest keeping an eye on the silverstone website as to when/if tickets go on sale - if you buy early you will be able to get tickets0 -
I've been to the following Grands Prix: Monaco x 2, Barcelona, Italy and Australia. I have always worked out the cost of Silverstone and been able to beat the price with travel and accommodation to the other European races. Australia was a treat as we went to the race while on honeymoon.
Obviously everyone's travel and accomodation costs for Britain will be different, so it may be more cost effective for some but it never has been for me on four occasions.
A few pointers for savings:
Always buy tickets direct from circuit websites, never any intermediaries.
Check budget airlines to airports "near enough" to the circuit.
Stay within easy and/or cost effective travelling distance to the circuit.
Stay a bit longer to maximise saving - often an extra night away will cost less than the price difference in flights for the day before/after the race and the previous/next day.
Look at F1 fan forums - there are thousands of people with advice you can take advantage of.
I'm looking at Hungary or Turkey for this year.
If you want to ask any specific questions I'll try and answer any I can, on here or by PM.0 -

My father in law gave up going to Silverstone because it was too expensive.
This year he did San Marino, camping, and it worked out cheaper all in for a 4 day package including travel.0 -
We've been to Australia and American races 2x each and while OK, yes, we were already in Oz/America so didn't have to factor in travel cost, they were sooooo much less than Silverstone for tickets. I'd be stunned if Silverstone were the cheapest option out there even factoring in travel expenses.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0

i guess it really depends how you want to see your grand prix - my suggestion silverstone was cheapest was based on getting a general admission ticket and just going on race day
obviously if you want grandstand tickets for all three days for a whole family and you need to stay in a hotel near silverstone etc etc the cost goes up and it may start to become cheaper to go abroad
it really depends on how you intend to do it
if you are trying to do it on a minimum cost i still think silverstone could be cheapest, but it depends on individual circumstances
basically the op would need to do the maths for themselves for each option if they felt so inclined0 -
You can watch the Monaco GP from The Rock for about 70 euros each.
Midweek flights on Easyjet can be cheap to Nice, but not the Friday and coming back Monday of the GP weekend.0 -

That is some very very good advice! This posters is speaking from experience and speaking sence! very good
On a similar note I tried to beat the rush and decided to book a travel inn for £65 for two night (bargain right) right next to the Donington race track, sure it was a gamble but I would of been the happiest person in the world had the gamble paid off........looks as if im out of luckbut hey still got some cheap accommodation!

Agree with everyone Silverstone is not a particularly cheap option.
We went to Italy in 2008, booked cheap hotel at Christmas time"Oro Blu" had 6 nights in Milan and Easyjet flights and used free train to travel to circuit on race day. Booked race tickets direct with circuit, had reserved seats on approach to Parabolica for about 100 euros.
Great time only went to Monza for qualifying and the race day, rest of the time going around Milan on multiple cheap 48 hour travel pass and was able to take in the San Siro tour while we were there.
A lot better than going to Silverstone..Val0
