Driving licence renewal
I'm guessing most people know this - but for those that don't.
It is a legal requirement to have your photo driving licence updated (at the cost of £20.00) every ten years.
I was swiftly reminded of this whilst discussing getting DD her provisional, panic checked on internet and couldn't find anything on the DVLA website that specifically said it needed doing every 10 years, however on the D1 (application for driving licence) it does state it there.
You can find out the date of renewal by looking at section 4b
Dont do it and you could be fined £1000

yet another "tax" on us. Get £20 every so often. Oh, and don't bother issuing a reminder, but fine us £1000 ! if we forget. How the hell do you remember something which happens at 10 yr intervals ?
I'm still holding a very tatty but valid old paper licence, thank you.
EDIT: Just looked on Direct.gov.uk, where it says you should receive a reminder 2 months before a renewal is due. Does this actually happen?I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.

Well the date is clearly marked on the front of the card for one.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

I never carry my licence so will need to go and find it and see what date is on it.0 -
You should get a reminder , but not everyone has . I have just renewed mine at the DVLA office and got them to do me anofficial copy , just incase something "dissapeared" off my licence ( I have bike entitlement and worked hard to get it)
The hologram at the side of the card gives you a date . It is also under one of the clauses on the card.
Updating your card is your responsibility ( According to the DVLA) but they send u a reminder.)
Renewing your paper licence for a card one can be done by this link
http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Motoringtransactions/BeforeyouapplyA/DG_066954
and it is a possibility that if you need to change your address at the same time they will leyway the renewal fee ( they did with me )
Although your address on the Licence should be updated when you need to as this also holds a fine , cant remember how much though ..
Here endeth my contribution .. lolONE HOUSE , DS+ DD Missymoo Living a day at a time and getting through this mess you have created. One day life will have no choice but to be nice to me :rotfl:0 -
Mine expired a few months ago. I did get a reminder but I've not renewed it. I read up on it at the time and could not find any evidence of anyone being prosecuted/fined for not updating their photo. Has something changed?0

But it just isn't something you think to look at, is it?
I have a blue parking badge (cos I'm disabled). These expire every 3 years. I use it just about every day, but realised with shock this year that it was actually 4 months out of date, just cos it never occurred to me to look at the date, as I go about my busy life. Just shows how carefully parking wardens look at them mind, as I hadn't received any tickets in that time.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.
