cilit bang - blew up our oven door

Thanks for all the advice guys - webmasterpolo, we followed the instructions exactly, left it on for 45 secs.
I did find a google cached page on bbc watchdogs site with people complaining that when this stuff originally came out there was a picture of an oven on the front, but the back said *dont* use it on an oven.
But the manufacturer said it was a mistake, and you can certainly use it on an oven.
Trading standards phoned us today and said that the court approach probably would not work, but perhaps we should go via the media instead.
I understand about taking wear & tear into account, but we have been without an oven for 2 months now. We went from having a fully functional (if old) oven, to having a lump of metal in our kitchen that is of no use, through no fault of our own. On top of that their product is dangerous stuff!! It should be withdrawn from the shelves.
I'm tempted to stick it through the courts and lose if thats the way it goes. Does anyone know how much $$ i lose if they win through the small claims court? Can they win legal costs from me? If so is there a ceiling on the amount?
My wife phoned them again today to get a final yes/no, and the lady dealing with us has gone on holiday for a couple weeks. They said they'd definately get someone to call back today.... surprise surprise, they haven't.

this stuff ruined all of my work surfaces
its awful
:eek:0 -
Correct me if I am wrong but surely using it on the glass door of the oven is not the same thing as using it on the inside of the oven itself and could be the reason why it reacted in a different way. I am not trying to be contentious just asking the question and I would be interested in other's thoughts on it.0

If you win through court you will get the court fee back and the financial loss you have suffered. Remember that an award would consider wear and tear (given you were stipping it wasnt in A1 condition and given that parts are no longer available it is evidently not brand new either)
If you lose you lose the court fee... unless somehow they can push it up from the small track (small claims court) to fast track in which case you would also have to pay their solicitor and barrister costs. All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

Do you have legal cover on your household insurance? We have and used it recently against some double glazing contractors that breached our contract. All it took was the initial official letter from the solicitor and all was sorted.
I was completely impressed by the level of service. It worked very well and we didn't have to pay a penny.0 -
Red - we do actually (Direct Line) - do you know if using the service can cost you in terms of later year premiums? I shall definately look into this.
gregg1 - yes I understand what you're saying, but then it should state only use internally on ovens, surely. The british site says it is suitable for use "on ovens".
Interestingly the american version of this stuff has a website which states it can be used on oven interiors!

I suspect an advice change coming to their website as soon as they can get their !!!!!! into gear, which I will be looking out for!Check out www.fancyanargument.com :T0 -

It's one of the few things that should have no impact on your premium. Even if they don't act on your behalf, they will still give free legal advice and advise what action is best to use.0 -

IvanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
