I have to agree that you need to know your stuff & breeders have to start somewhere, it's not something you should say you'll never do, but you do need to learn more before you do. If I got a pedigree dog from a breeder (& I have had pedigree rabbits in the past from a breeder) i'd want them to have a lot more knowledge than you currently do & to know their stuff inside out. When I worked with Dogs we had a Papillon that needed a c-section & then didn't accept her Pups, two died & they had to hand rear the third. It wasn't easy & that could maybe have all been prevented if they'd been reputable breeders & known their stuff. You have some fantastic advice, the link FC gave is particularly good with things to consider.
My own female got a mammary tumour (& currently has a second) which may well be due to her previous Owner not neutering her. She's had to have one op to remove the first but as the second appeared after the op, she will at some point need more surgery. She will now also be prone to getting more. All this could be prevented by neutering her.
It's interesting how you say your Dog had a tumour in the womb after the womb was removed, then say elsewhere. Good breeders would know all about their dogs medical history & what they have & haven't had.
Anyway, I hope you looked into the breeder's insurance & it is good that you're at least considering that, though there's much more expense to it than medical costs0 -
