Hello All,

I need to buy a high chair in the next couple of months. No idea where to start as to what I need. Can you help?

It is the new 'pushchair debate'!!

I would go for a padded reclining one with a pull off tray if I had my time again

Mine is the same as what jopsey sugests, its the chicco polly highchair, and while I love it, the only downside is that it takes up loads of room, but on the plus side it has a detachable tray insert for easy cleaning, loads of different hights, it reclines, has a lower table to put dessert out of sight of baby, can be used as a chair for the table when older and loads others. I love mine, but not very cheap

I bought one from Mothercare which converts to an ickle table and chair, which I'm hoping will be useful when my spawn...I mean, dearest daughter is older.
Downside is it doesn't fold down, so not the best option if you're short of space.

If I had all the money I'd spent on drink, I'd spend it on drink.

Totally agree with Iwanttosave, the big, padded chairs are much nice, a pull off tray is a must.

Mind you my ds decided as soon as he could stand he was going to stand on a chair at the table next to his brothers and sister as he didnt wnat to be left out, high chair is now in waiting for my tiny ds to use when hes older.
Debt free and plan on staying that way!!!!

thats whats great about the polly, you can take the tray completly off (not just the insert) the two arms fold up and can be used as a chair at the main table.

God I sound like an infomercial :o :rotfl:

Well I've had three kids, and been a nanny before that. With my first two we had a wooden hand-me-down one the tray came off,but it wasn't very comfy when they were little.I got a £30 folding one for my last baby, also not very good, and was rarely folded,so didn't really need to be as much of a feature as I thought.I always wished I'd got one ot those which convert into table and chair, after seeing other people use them, that is what I'd reccommend. Some of the big padded plastic ones are soo expensive and bulky, and so over designed their amusing.I would deffinately go for a wooden convertable one.But which ever you choose, remember they all look clean and sparkly instore.Just imagine getting a bowl of soggy weetabix,a handfull of squashed banana, some couscous, and a good helping of gravy.....just picture your little angel smearing it all over the tray, seat and legs,at tea time, leaving it over night to dry on(I know we all intend to clear up straight after meals, but there are times when it will get left to dry on)making sure he gets it into every awkward nook and crany, and just think which one would be easyiest to clean? if I was going to choose a high chair,in hine sight, thats how I'd make my choice.because really a baby is quite happy to sit and eat anywhere, and they really dont care if the pattern matches the wall paper etc!

we had this one for my youngest http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Product.aspx/BruHome/BruSpecialOffers/BruSpecialOffersFeeding/711470?ref=Search

i love the fact it reclines so can be used for the earliest weaning also if baby falls asleep during mealtimes, which my son did a lot lol then you can recline them and let them nap a little while :)

after we had finished with it my sister had it for my nephew and it will be used for her new baby which is due soon :)

it depends how much room you have? how much you will actually use it? i know some people who dont have much space just use one like this

    I had one of these:

It's a doddle to clean, and doesn't take up any room as it just straps onto one of your dining chairs. You can use it with the tray on or tuck it right close to the table so the child can eat alongside everyone else.
Here I go again on my own....

We have the forerunner to this as a hand me down.

Love the table, the adjustable height and the recline feature was useful too when starting off feeding as you could tip babys head back. whole chair folds up smaller too.

Don't like the way food gets caught in the corners of the chair tho, makes it hard to clean.

We didn't have much space when eldest was born so one that could be folded and tucked behind a door out of the way when not in use was ideal. We lived in a bigger home when youngest was born and I also had a padded hairchair with tray that could be took off. Mine was bought at a yard sale in Canada and fetched over by a kind relative when visiting:D . Now daughter is 3 and in-laws have picked up a wooden chair with no tray it sits her higher up at the table than using normal chair but means she can still eat from the family table. This was bought at a boot sale but originally came from Ikea.
