Proper Gearbox Inspection

I believe that a recent clutch & slave install could of resulted in gearbox failure some 1500 miles later.
Any idea of where I can get an inspection done where they will list the cause & put their name to it if it is due to a faulty install?

Its gearbox failure.
But as you asked.

it could have been an oil seal thats been disturbed on the removal of the gearbox causing your leak, then having no fluid left in it or very little causing the metal clunking noise....work permit granted!0 -

The leak happened last.
That was after the RAC came out & asked to move it a few metres to see what the problem was. It then poured out in one go in seconds. Not Again0 -

If all the fluid came out in a rush after the noise then one possibility is internal mechanical failure which broke the case when moved for the last time.
Good luck but I think you’ll struggle to link that to a clutch change0 -

i agree it could be hard to pin this on a clutch change.
it would need to be inspected to find out the actual cause of this, then move forward from there. find a gearbox specialist if you really want to chase this, but it will cost you for the inspection.
it might be easier, quicker and cheaper to source a second hand box?
have you had a look on some freelander forums or websites to see if this is a common occurance?...work permit granted!0 -

what did the RAC say caused this? they would have given you a report sheet wouldnt they,as vague as they are sometimes though....work permit granted!0 -

Said it was probably the clutch change.
Same with another mechanic.
The gearbox still engages & drives in 1st & reverse. Not tried any other gears & now the fluid gone I am not moving it. But it made a hell of a noise when it did move.
Best to get it to a Gearbox specialist or main dealer? Not Again0
