Help needed pls!! - SP want to change my meter...why?
Comments

That's why it's being changed. It's an ancient meter and these type are gradually being phased out.0

Just confirm it will be a like for like change of meter ie credit meter replaced with a credit meter or pre-pay for pre-pay. (Assuming that's what you want)
SP replaced my electricity meter last year sometime and were happy to confirm it was like for like. The only downside is the smallest unit of measurement is 1 kWh presumably that's all you get with a digital meter.
The job took half an hour.
If you have a monitor for measuring consumption make sure they leave sufficient room for the clamp to go round the appropriate tail.0 -

if you keep refusing entry, they will think you are 'at it', are you?
They will eventually get a warrent of entry, force entry, might involve police and a joiner or locksmith, for which you will have to pay, just let them change it.
Oh, and meters, just like washing machines and cars, can go faulty, for all you know it is maybe running fast.
No, I'm not "at it". The fact they turn up for appointments before the letter has been sent out (date stamp is after appointment etc), is it no wonder I'm angry at them?CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0 -

er, yes that was one problem with SP actually. Strange people. I'd get a we 'called card' followed by a letter saying we need to change your meter (yesterday)
Had to phone them in the end.0 -

my point exactly and when I did arrange an appointment over the phone the engineer didn't show up :mad:CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. I've never missed a payment (paid by DD) policy meter exchanges such as these are nothing to do with you bills or how you pay them
Never had any arrears See above reply
Always been with SP (as there is a transco charge?
) no such company and transco any more and It is the supplier that dictates when you meter is changed not national grid - and what do you mean by transco charge are you referring to an independant gas transporter charge which is nothing to do with national grid,
....and none of my neighbours are getting these calls and letter and their houses are the same age as mine.Your neighbours may not be with the same supplier as stated above it is the supplier who dictates such meter changes - also their meters may have been changed previously for one reason or another so it is not always easy to give a correct comparision of their situation and yours
When I questioned SP about this they said it was law, and when I questioned why none of my neighbours knew anything about it (my house isn't No 1, nor am I at start of alphabet etc...) they said they couldn't discuss other accounts. ..... Oh and the guy who turned up previously (the first time) I didn't let in as he had no ID, the second and third appeared both BEFORE I received the letter to tell me they were coming. Naturally the supplier cannot discuss other peoples accounts as that is illegal under the date protection act = good on you for not letting the person in without id I would be the same - and the same with the others - I had the water company guy turn up before I had written notification and the 2nd time they went to the wrong address totally
What's going on?
What is going on is a perfectly legitimate policy meter exhange for safety and accuracy reasons - as with all items that have moving parts they wear out and it is cheaper to exchange for a more modern one that service - and a meter service is not something that could be done in situ so to say due to the nature of its function and other more technical reasons as far as I am aware.
Also as the meter is SP's property either totally or on least from National Grid it is them who make all the decisions on this and they do have a legal right to do so,
I am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
I would suggest that the fact that appointment letters are turning up AFTER the engineer turns up at the OP's property are due to the following:
1) The stupid postmen are on strike, in case you hadn't noticed.
2) You've refused entry on at least one occasion.
Just let them change their meter. What's your problem?British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
The postmen are not "stupid". They have got a totally legitimate reason for striking. The bosses are taking the !!!!.0

there is fault on both sides in this dispute but that aside I have had probs with posties other than the regular one who is brilliant - always know when she is not on my area as post goes elsewhere and I get others post not goodI am responsible me, myself and I alone I am not the keeper others thoughts and words.0 -
I've been in the same house from new for 25 years - nobody has ever changed the gas or electric meter.0
