How to unblock a sink without buying a plunger?

Options
Right, i did search and i cant find anywhere to post this.
So can someone move this if its not allowed here please :D

My sink is blocked, the water will not drain down it. I dont know whats blocking it.
I dont want to go out and buy a plunger as my dad who is a plumber is coming round with one tomorrow if i cant sort it tonight, also its sunday so everywhere is closed :(

I have tried,
  • Putting a cloth over the overflow and using a plastic cup
  • Pouring hot water and thick bleach down
  • Sticking a chopstick down to see if i could dislodge it. Its further down then i thought.
From what i can see my sink just drains down into the pipe which then goes out through the wall and into an outside drain.

Any ideas? :D x

Sodium hypochlorite or caustic soda. Not sure where you would buy it though.

Once I tried to unblock a sink using my slightly cupped palm on the drain, by way of plunger, pressing down a few times. It worked. :)
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

Net curtains are usually held up by a flexible spirally wound metal rod. Extract this and push gently down plug hole. Have you asked neighbours if they have a sink unblocker? Good reason for getting to know your neighbours before you have a minor crisis and which ones can sort out which problems.

Look under sink and dismantle white pipework. Be careful it is a filthy job. Get your dad to talk you through it whilst you do it.

Get an old bubble bath bottle, or similar, fill it with water.

Turn it upside down into the plug hole and squeeze the bottle really hard to force the water down the hole, keep the bottle in place as whatever you forced down should come back into the bottle, like a vaccuum type of thing.

I hope you understood that lol

Right spoke to my mum and she suggested the palm thing to, and then to unscrew the u bend thing if all else fails. Im going to attempt this now.

    Wish me luck! :D

Also, roger, we dont have any neighbours :( We live above a chemist and we're surrounded by shops lol x

Tried the palm thing, i cant get a good enough suction lol.
So i tried to unscrew what i think was the ubend, but nothing budged, so i unscrewed another bit and it drained away all the water i put into the sink trying the bottle thing so at least thats out.

This is under my sink, (i just sent this to my dad for advice to lol)

Its odds on that it is blocked up with hair and other gunge.

You will probably find that the pipe leading outside will be blocked to some extent as well.
