Where to buy tripe?
Comments
-
My FIL used to eat this either cold with salt and vinegar, cooked in milk or battered and deep fried. I think it was called honeycomb or something??
How disgusting!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sure there was pigs tripe as well, a greyish pinkish colour rather than white.
Why the sudden urge to eat tripe??
Or have you eaten it in the past??

I have seen it on sale in Chesterfield, in the butchers in the market hall. There are also 'traditional' butchers round here who could probably help.
Can't stand it myself! We were given it as kids and HAD to eat it -Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily DickinsonJanice 1964-2016
Thank you Honey Bear0 -
The Coop in Shepshed (near Loughborough) have just started seliing it. You could also try Websters the butcher in the Market Place, if he hasn't got it I'm sure he could easily get some.I have tried a couple of butchers but have been unable to buy any...they say that there is no demand and so don't stock it.
I wonder if anyone knows of any butchers who sell it in the Notts, Derbyshire or Leicestershire area.
It is for human consumption.0 -
It's no longer cheap as there is so little of it to be had. Any decent butcher should be able to get if for you, but they would need to order it and you may need to wait a week or two, as the message needs to get to the abbatoir before they sling it in the skip destined for the pet food buyers!Warning ..... Thanks for all of the above....
As a child we had tripe cooked the milk and onion way and I was not a big fan but a couple of years ago, whilst in Florence, I had the local speciality where it was cooked in a tomato sauce and enjoyed it.
Last week I had the Rome version and it was delicious...searched for a recipe and found one so just need the tripe now.
The tripe is slowly cooked for 5 hours until tender and then sliced into a rich tomtato sauce.
I will try and get some this week and let you know how it goes!0 -
Dont know where you can buy it but if you look on the Thank Quidco forum you will find loads0

Thanks, I see similarities to squid then they way it's cooked - probably best in a sauce.
Hope you get what you are looking for, looking forward to hearing how it went.

I live in Cornwall, but was visiting family in Hucknall last week, went to the butchers to buy faggots and saw the tripe!! They may well shrink wrap for you, and send via post? They shrink wrap my faggots so I am able to bring home to Cornwall0 -
Ha Ha, My mum used to love tripe and onions but my dad used to say it looked like hot sick and wouldn't touch it, that used to put me off too, so I wouldn't either. I did used to have it as it was though with salt and vinegar. She also used to get cow-heel which was good to give flavouring to stews (lol although my dad didn't know she sneaked it in!!).
I tried some a few months ago from the shop in Belper, just for old times sake I suppose. Didn't taste the same though without my mum there eating it with me.
The poster that said its not cheap anymore was right too, it was quite expensive.0
