Imagine hearing that?? "Sorry we dont think your smart enough to have a baby so we're taking it away"

If they can allow couples with severe downs to have and raise a child, why not this couple?

I honestly think thats so awful, there are children out there with far worse parents. At the end of the day they have support from their family and are willing to do everything they can for their child.

EA - yes its free P&P on play too but at least you set the selling price, so you can incorporate the fee into it, altho the charges are a lil more than ebay 10% +50p on sale. So you can work out at least what is the min you'd be willing to sell it for, just means you could be waiting a while for a sale.

    Congrats Littlebit, he's beautiful :)

Have to agree with all the eBay talk, the more I've been selling at the minute makes me realise how pants it is not for sellers. Great for buyers though!! We've got tonnes of books waiting to be sold, always do badly at carboots even though the majority of them are read once from the bestsellers list - everytime I look at them I say I'll start using the library instead...but never do!

    That story is hideous EA.

I am trying so hard not to be peed off but all my twinges seem to have gone this morning so I feel like I'm back to square one. Fingers very tightly crossed that it picks up again very soon. All labour vibes very welcome.

The way it's reported, yeah, it does sound awful. That said, I'm sure there would have to be something else behind it for social workers to consider accommodating a child. Of course if there isn't - it really is terrible and I wouldn't be surprised if it was caused in part by all the bad press on social workers recently. They can't seem to do right whatever they do.

Don't know how it works elsewhere but in Scotland, Child Protection Orders (emergency accommodation of a child and what the council would need to take if the parents didn't agree for the child to be voluntarily taken into foster care) are granted by the Sheriff - he/she couldn't/wouldn't grant one unless there were reasonable grounds to do so.

The way I see it, without full knowledge of what the concerns are about this family (I doubt the media is reporting everything - they rarely do) - no one can really judge the decisions of the local authority.

(for the record, I'm not a social worker!)

ETA: The meeting they said was minuted and the baby was said to be at risk of Emotional Harm - sounds like a child protection case conference - at which a decision would have been reached by a multi agency group (including police and health services) not just the view of the social worker.

    steps off soapbox

    Hope everyone is well today
