Endsleigh Comprehensive Car Insurance - Not Very Comprehensive

Forgive me if this is troll-like, because I am not a troll, however, I've seen posts similar to this myself and it irritates me that insurance covers this sort of thing - why should insurance pay out with the resulting premium increases across the board because of someone's stupidity?
Having said that, main dealers seem to consider this thing a license to print money. I remember however that when I bought a Jaguar X-Type diesel, the salesman told me not to even turn the key if I put the wrong fuel in as the pump primes the system and pumps fuel all the way to the the engine, which then requires a massive repair, so i was warned of the consequences. If I remember they told me it was filled and I didn't turn the key it was a tow and a drain, a couple of hundred pounds, if I turned the key and even just started the engine it would be thousands.Dogs have owners...my cat has slaves...0 -

I suppose the question then becomes which is more stupid……driving into a ditch or putting the wrong fuel in?
Insurance is to cover stupid, the consumer has to decide which stupid things he wants cover for and then buy the policy that covers what he wants.
As others have said some policies exclude mis-fuelling so you can buy one of those if you don't want the cover0 -
xocbc - Because it causes you such irritation (not good for your health) why not take vaio's excellent advice and buy a policy that excludes the things you don't want to pay for?0

This morning Endsleigh have changed their minds and we are now covered for misfuelling. When I originally tried to claim they said I was not covered, then when I complained about that they double-checked for me, and said I definitely wasn't covered. They checked again this morning on my request and now I am!
The garage are checking the car tomorrow for the definitive cost to repair.0 -
That does not surprise me with the quality of call centre staff Insurers often employ, luckily for you that you discovered MSE0

Yes - I am grateful for the help I've received here. I've clicked the "Thanks" button for certain contributors, more than once. :-)0

Quentin is pretty good!
If you had posted on the Insurance forum on MSE you would have got the advice but with less chance of trolls.0 -
I think I am correct in saying that diesel in unleaded cars isn't quite as harmful than the other way around but still not great. Does diesel in unleaded not just smoke like hell, be slow as hell and probably damage the catalitic converter?0
-
unleaded petrol wont make a huge amount of damage to a diesel engine
however if you put diesel in a petrol engine - big damage to fuel pump etc
Wrong!
If it is a common rail diesel (CRDi) engine (most recents engines are CRD), running the engine with petrol will cause severe damage!
In UK, it is highly unlikely that you fill a petrol car with diesel as diesel nozzle is bigger and won't go to petrol tank.
That's why we see all mis-fueiling only when diesel car is filled with petrol.
It can be prevented by a attaching a device which costs £50-£80. A small price to pay for peace of mind.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0
