I am sure I read somewhere that Sky boxes have a two year standard warranty.

The paperwork that came with my box (over two years ago) says 12 month warranty - but I dont think the problem is with the box.

£10.50 seems a lot of money to be paying out.

Even if your box dies SKY will issue a call out fee of £65 and sort the problem out. Even down to renewing the box included. Its doubtful that more than one thing could go wrong in a year but even 2 faults would still only bring it to £130.
(only in my own experience mind) I have had Sky now for about 10 years and have only had a problem once in all that time, paid my £65 and got a new box installed, apparently the old one died. Paying out insurance as always is a gamble and you have to weigh up the pros and cons.

Reconditioned box, with a 3 month warrenty on service calls.Best bet tho is get a spare from a boot sale.I got one for £7 complete for a mate & one for myself.(just in case...)

Now that is a seriously good idea, I love boot sales but I dont ever recall seeing a sky box... will keep my eyes open.

With people getting HD/Sky+ in for Crimbo, you may see a lot more at the boot sales. Not everyone want's,or can afford at the moment, multiroom.
  • This happens to us almost every time it rains heavily - we're in a VERY exposed spot.
Will wait for DH to get home so that he can check out Spike's suggestions!

Just to add,I was an engineer for Sky after redundency from NTL/VM but hopefully going to get my old job with VM back as it was advertised the other week.:-)
What I posted about before is based on my experience when working for Sky.

I would do if only the Domestic and General would agree that it needs doing or at least looking at, but since they say it doesnt I am in a bit of a cul de sac.....

well I was, until I cancelled both the policy and Sky TV this afternoon, am going to give BT vision a try, will be making a saving of £53 per month for the first 3 months and £46 a month thereafter - I should have done it sooner!

Many thanks for all the responses, you are great guys.
