Dri-master?

We are currently having major adaptations done to our home. The builder has recommended fitting a 'Dri-master' to combat the problems we have with condensation/mould and mildew which has been a massive problem for years, we have two dehumidifiers, which never stop.
Does anyone have any experience of this item, and would it be effective?

Surely the right approach would be to find out what the underlying cause of the damp is and fix that. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

Drimaster units are excellent - they'll cost you under £5 to run per year, but you'll probably save more money than this on your heating bills, as drier air is cheaper to heat than moist air. It'll control humidity to the ideal range (between 40 and 60%) which will not only eliminate condensation but give you a much better quality of air to breathe.
Info from manufacturers here: http://www.nuaire.co.uk/Product/Residential_Products/Positive_Input_Ventilation/Drimaster_3650 -
We just installed a Drimaster-3S in our house (townhouse hence the 3S) brought direct from Nuaire's selling arm £327. It's dearer than the standard Drimaster due to a fire resistant grill.
So far so good, but then the weather has been quite mild.
The windows on the top floor of the house only get a tiny 1/2 film of moisture along the bottom of them, while before they were soaked from top to bottom.
Have to wait until it's colder outside to see how it fares in the colder weather0 -
Hi griffiths,
I install drimasters all the time, (daily) I have a Dri 2000 in my house, and fitted ones in family members houses too
As snuggy says there is nuaires site which is good, but can be difficult to navigate and they don't sell as readily to the public as they used to
you could also look at the 'envirovent' site for a comparison
good units, but stupidly overpriced and no better or worse than the nuaire products
There is a unit called the lofty but IMO it's cheap and nasty, I won't touch them
I buy either direct off nuaire or I also buy from
www.condensationproducts.co.uk , I also get my mould control sprays and paint additives from them, as I spend quite a bit i get a bit of discount too
thing to bear in mind too, is they have a bit more back up than someone sat in an office reading from a script
I'll be getting an invite to their christmas party at this rate:rolleyes:
penryn,
mould / mildew, 2 dehumidifiers running all the time? I think condensation is a strong contender for the cause!
Hope this helps
DDThe advice I give on here is based on my many years in the preservation industry. I choose to remain anonymous, I have no desire to get work from anyone. No one can give 100% accurate advice on a forum if I get it wrong you'll get a sincere apology and that's all:D

Another big thumbs up for the drimaster, it has eradicated a serious condensation problem in my 3 bed villa.
Trust DampDaveski he knows what he's talking about :beer:0 -
I considered getting one of these myself today, until i spoke to a very useful chap about my house the mould is only on the upstairs on the walls/ ceiling that are not attached to the adjacent house (I have a semi detached). It has been advised that I should try and improve the insulation on the house as this can be the root cause of the condensation. Local councils are currently doing a scheme for homeowners and are subsidising costs some may even get it done for nothing. This is all to do with the goverment trying to reduce emmisions. I have decided i will try this first before the dri master as it is a cheaper alternative that will lower fuel costs. I hope others find this information useful like I have.0

I live in a cob/stone cottage which at some time has had a non-cavity extension extension added. I have not got the room size to add 50mm insulation inside, the whole cottage has been overhauled outside and all rendering repaired and painted (with the correct materials I must add!). It's probably obvious what's coming next, but the problem is damp in the two rooms built on, black mould can grow if left unchecked, the chimney are functioning and clear, we open windows when the weather allows. I came across the Drimaster products and it seems that it may well help solve the problems I am having as I am convinced that it is the warm air hitting cold spots on the non-cavity walls. Question is, has anyone out there used Drimaster in a similar situation with any success?0

The cost of a Drimaster is low and it's a fixed unit so much more practical than carrying dehumidifier's around: it's got to be worth a try as it works continuously from your loft air, so far less hassle than remembering to open adn close windows all the time to improve air circulation.
New-build flats and houses are notorious for condensation, not because of "damp" but because of human-generated activities which generate mositure (showers, kettles, breathing etc) that is not removed by air leakage. Modern houses are so well-built, so well insulated and airtight, that they either require a considerable change in behaviour by inhabitants - opening and closing windows and using extractors ad nauseum - or you need a fixed ventilation unit like Nuaire.0 -
One thing that I am always unsure about the Drimaster style units is in winter are they not just pushing the warm air from the house and pulling in cold air from the loft in that then has to be heated up again.
I can understand why this process reduces the relative humidity in the home, but surely this constant fresh air just pushes up heating bills?
