Does anyone else have relative(s) staying with them over the Xmas/New Year period. And is it starting to drive you a bit crazy?
OH's brother has been here since 23rd and will be here until around 3rd or 4th I think (unless the weather means his flight is cancelled - a real possibility). He's a nice guy, easy to get on with and funny but.......our flat is so small!
I haven't had any time alone with the OH since his arrival, other than at bedtime. And the OH is mostly staying up til silly o'clock with his brother, so it's not like I even get a chance to talk to him before bed. Some of us have to work the next day!
Now, I know, I'm being a little selfish here, as he rarely gets to see his brother. But, they are together all day without me and most of the evening. Is it too much for me to expect a little time too?
Plus, guys being guys, I've been putting up with the 'Corr, she's fit' type comments every time they see a pretty girl on TV/internet/magazine etc. I don't mind a little of this usually, because it's usually only a little bit. But with the pair of them here, they encourage each other and it's been constant. Been nagging at my self esteem.
We were watching Awake last night, and after the 5th or 6th comment about Jessica Alba, I asked them to give it a rest. I explained quickly that, with the two of them, it's getting a bit much, so please just leave it alone for a while.
OH's response was 'Well, you only had to say something'. I say 'I just did'. He says, 'Well there's no need to keep sulking about it afterwards'. !!!!!!?! I only just told you. The afterwards he refers to is about 2 seconds long for Christ sake.
I didn't want to get into it with his brother there so I just left it. And then later, he mocks me about it and then wonders why I don't to sit there and joke and laugh.
I want to let him know that it's really affected my self esteem lately (in part I think this is due to missing out on Christmas with my family (making everything else feel worse) and the fact that I cannot compete with the likes of Jessica Alba and currently, I feel like I have to), but I'm not prepared to have this discussion in front of his brother. But, with no other time alone together right now, how else am I supposed to explain my feelings? I know he would understand if I explained, but I just dont feel like I've had the opportunity lately.
He came into the bedroom last night at 2am. I expected him to get into bed, but he got straight on the computer and started tapping away etc. So I asked him if he was coming to bed and the response was 'Oh, I suppose I am now then'. For God's sake, it was just a question because I have missed spending time with him.
But this is the other issue, whilst his brother is a nice guy, he has bad habits that my OH picks up when he is here and so starts to act a bit c'cky etc, like he's showing off. And quite honestly, right now, I'd like to punch both of them. I won't of course.
I'm sorry, I'm ranting, I know.
Am I being completely unreasonable?February wins: Theatre tickets0 -

So Nov works out at around 1.58 per day and December works out as 1.68 per day. Which isn't a big difference when I look at it like that, I just expected it to always decrease as I pay more than the interest each month. With an online payment, on the day the statement is produced each month (so reduces the interest charged as much as possible). The payment usually clears in 2 working days.
Hopefully the info they will send me will make it clearer for me. There are 3 different types of interest being applied: cash advance (WHY?!), purchases and cheques.
I just did some calculations, and as far as I can tell, the interest should be lower. But as you say, it depends on how many days interest are being applied which depends on so much. Plus, I think there is still a very small amount of interest free balance transfer on there that is cleared first. It appears that way anyway (we're talking about 10 quid here).
I'm not entirely sure how payments are allocated anyway as the wording on this is not clear. We'll do it this way if this, and this way if that, and if this happens we'll do this, but not this blah blah blah! lol
I just want the full breakdown, dates, amounts etc. That way, I will be able to see where and why the difference is occurring. And after burying my head about it for so long, I'm really keen to understand it all fully these days.
We shall see. Thanks Paul
Obviously there is no way I can be certain from here but in some circumstances, CC cheques are treated as cash advances - usually if the cheque is not part of a special offer. Also, it is possible that the cash advance may be from a very long time ago as they tend to be cleared last as they are usually at the highest rate. Even if there were just a few pounds remaining from a long time ago when you notched up other debt, it would still be showing up.
The other issue is the bit you mention about still having a bit of interest free credit left to be paid. As you know, this gets cleared first. Therefore, if your previous paymernts have been used by Halifax to clear the zero interest deal, there is actually no reason why your interest charge should have been dropping. It would in fact be static if there were the same number of days between payments each month. It would only start to drop each month once the zero interest deal is cleared - and even then the usual fluctuations between payment dates would sometimes have the effect of increasing it on a given month.
With my own interest charges for a particular CC account, the interest this year has been £44.73, £42.66, £45.08, £48.92, £41.10, £43.45, £47.18, £42.45, £43.32.
The trend is downwards but not as quickly as I would wish. On the above numbers, the debt level was reducing from about 8 grand to around 7 grand. The bit being paid off at the moment is an APR of about 5.9%. Once I get into the bit that is charged at 7.9%, it should start reducing a little faster. If this debt is still around in a couple of years time, it's likely that the interest charges will all be in the £30+ something bracket.
CORRECTION: In fact it could rise as you would be paying interest on the interest each month.0 -
Hey guys!
Going to get back into posting les payments! So I'm going to end 2009 with a whole 30 GBP between Virgin on the Ridiculous, sMint and Braclaycardo. Though I've paying 35% APR on Virgin, I'm determined to bin it off in 2010!! I've paid 58.8% of the total off so I'm going to do it!!If I pay anything else off then that's a bonus :rotfl:
