You don't know the half of it! I get quite a few benefits as standard here, that are exceptionally rare to come by in the UK.

Commuter costs are refunded each month, I get a clothing allowance of €31 per month, the pension contribution from the firm is double what the UK paid, mobile phone (with allowance of €69 pm - I don't bother with a personal one anymore), internet paid up to maximum of €30 per month etc. And these increase as you progress through the company. OK, a couple are there because I use them for work - the phone and internet, but I still benefit from them.

Italy has a 13th month at Christmas, a holiday payment (full month's extra pay) in May and a small Easter bonus also! This is before the discretionary bonuses are applied.

I had no idea how badly we compare to the rest of Europe until I moved here.

    Ooooooooh am sooooo jealous :rotfl:

I still can't get over the commuter costs thing. I used to lose 150 GBP from my net income each month when I worked in London, and now someone else pays it for me! Nice!

Even if you drive, you get €0.19 per km reimbursed. So, if your journey to work is 15km, then that's 30km's per day (€5.70) and then this is multiplied by an average number of working days (I can't remember the figure).

Chances of getting this as standard in the UK? Zero. I think most companies would just laugh at us if we asked. But then, these things do change, but they take time.

That's fantastic Euro. I know in some of the Scandanavian countries (if not all) you get full pay whilst on maternity leave too. What are we doing living here?

Ah well, PADS will be thin on the ground for me this month, but a payment has just gone out to Lloyds CC, so £75 please Gilli!

Have a good weekend everyone - it's my work's Christmas Do tonight and I'm staying over, so might be worse for wear tomorrow :o (with a bit of luck :D)
  • Could I join this challenge please?

I've just paid £1.15 to my Virgin Credit Card and will try to make a payment (however small) every day.

    Thank you.

    Yep! Madness huh?

Yet, if you compare gross salaries with the UK, then it would appear the UK is better off. These figures rarely take into account these benefits which effectively increase my salary by around 17-18%! That's a big bl00dy difference.

Especially now that the Euro is gaining more and more strength! :)

Come on, all you PADder's! Move to Holland.

Quick question before I finish my lunch break...

Are any PADders going to the Scottish DFW meet tomorrow in Edinburgh?

I didn't make a PAD yesterday as I was at work all day and then went out, but I've made a payment of £20.10 to my CC this morning.
