Hi
Would appreciate advice from gardeners. I have about a 1/4 acre which has ver long grass and cant be cut using a mower. Can anyone suggest how I can get it to a point where it can be mowed?
Thought about using a strimmer but seems a very long job!
Can I hire something which can cope with this? All suggestions appreciated!

When we moved into our house the grass hadn't been cut for years (about 1/2 acre) DH did it with a petrol strimmer we hired from a hire shop, then a petrol mower. He also needed very large quantities of beer!0

Ah so it wasn't a daft thought! I imagined I could just hire a machine and it would just eat it all up.
Did he leave the strimmed grass to dry before trying to collect it up. It would be a huge amount!0 -
Considering the hire cost of equiment and fuel, it might be worth getting a local gardener and paying them to clear the site as a one off for you.
Or at least get it to a manageable condition so you can deal with it.0 -
Thanks Alan. Tried that. BUt he wanted £450 for it.0

Off to the hire shop for a petrol stimmer and some goggles then!0

Hi.
Borrow some sheep.

We borrow some cattle to eat out our field. We've had sheep in the past. Both are a lot less effort than trying to cut it every week. Pointless energy wasteing exercise IMO.
If you do decide cutting is the only answer as animals aren't available or it would be difficult to fence them in (electic fences are quite simple though) you'd be better off with an ALLEN SCYTHE they can be hired for a reasonable amount. Though you can also get a ride on mower hired for a similar charge and the ride on mower would be less sweat and would make collecting the grass easier. I'd ask if anyone wants it for haymaking. Horse owners might be pleased to have some free grass for haymaking.

Ride on mower hire Example only not a recommendation.
