Well this is my fisrt post on here in agessssssss and sadly its not about anything good!
I have worked at the same place as a manager for the last 18 moths, I saw advertised a job for a manager of a "local" store and as it was nearer to home and better money I went for it. I was offered the job and was due to start work on Monday. I handed my notice in at my current job and my last shift was today.......I then got the call at 12pm today that there was no job for me to start as my new store was being closed. I asked my current employers if I could revoke my resignation and they have said no.
What do I do next?
I don't know much about benefits etc and dont really know where to turn. I am the the only income in the family and its gonna be a nightmare!
Thanks
Clair

Surely they have broken the contract by retracting the job?0

I haven't yet signed a contract as I havent started work with them, Monday would have been my first day0

You need to contact JCP asap to make a claim for JSA and LHA if relevant. If you claim WTC you should notify them as well.0

I would get legal advice, even though you have not signed a paper contract, I'd guess there is paper work, or even conversations etc.. that they had offered you the job and you were mean't to start on a particuar date, so to intents and purposes this is a contract.
You may not get the job back, but certainly get some compensation. Is it s chain of shops or an independant, and are they just closing the one shop or are they going under?0 -
what is LHA?0

Isnt it Local Housing Allowance? Assistance perhaps? When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0 -

It is a chain, FQR own wine rack, thresher and the local shops, I am not too sure how many are closing as it is all still very much up in the air. I will call citizens advice in the morning and see what to do.

They have gone into administration.0 -
Although I understand they are looking for a buyer and to run it as a going concern.0

Sadly you're entitled to no compensation. You effectively accepted a job (with no contract) at a shop that has since gone belly-up. There is little you can do about that.
Very unfortunate.
The real issue is why your previous employer is not prepared to take you back.0
