Tablet Draw of Dishwasher won't open mid cycle.

Our dishwasher draw is not opening and releasing the soap, although it will open manually. Please does anybody have any ideas on why it is doing this and what I can do to remedy the problem?

  • Mine does this and the tablet is only partially disolved - it's so annoying. It ends up stuck to the door so I've now started to just throw it in the bottom of the dishwasher.

It ends up stuck to the door
When I had this problem , I was using those tablets/bags
that dissolve . Found as I was putting them in a wet /damp compartment ,
they half dissolved and got sticky before 'door' opened .
Checking compartment was dry at beginning made all the difference.
  • Just pop the tablet into the cutlery basket. ;)

On dismantling my dishwasher door I found that the dispenser compartment door was operated by an electromagnetic catch. At the right time during the cycle, power is applied to the catch which opens and drops out the soap.
If yours is not working you need an electrician to check it for you.
You can, as suggested, put the tablet directly into the washer so long as you don't use the pre-rinse cycle.

Thanks for all your replies. I will try wallbash's idea and dry out the compartment first. If that doesn't work I will call out an electrician as advised by needaspirin.

I'm sure that would work. but cant be as efficient. The manufactures have designed
the dishwasher to receive the 'soap' at the correct time in the cycle .
Chucking it in the cutlery basket seems to me to be wrong ...
, although it will open manually.

So when you open the (main )door , after the cycle , the mini  door is still closed?
My problem was the , mini door was open but the tab/bag was sticking to the bottom of the compartment.

Make sure you are not stacking stuff in the way of the door opening if I put things in the top tray wrong they can stop the hatch opening.

My mum had the same problem years ago and called the engineer out. He advised that she could either spend a small fortune getting it fixed or lob the tablet in the bottom of the dishwasher. She went with the latter.
  • My sister's dishwasher had this happen a couple of times. On both occaisions, the catch mechanism had failed.

Contacted a local store that handled some repairs and they were able to source a replacement dispenser (sure it was only something like £45). They were able to test the old one first mind, to confirm the fault.

Then it was simply a case of undoing a few screws to release the front panel, then a few more to remove the old mechanism & fit the new one.

Didn't take long and was cheaper than getting someone out to look at it for a call-out fee.
