I dont see why it should matter, take the job and take responsibility for yourself.

  • thank you for your waste of time reply. you obviously dont have an ill daughter to look after
  • Check www.entitledto.co.uk for a rough guide.

Don't forget you will get WTC if you have dependent children.

My time wasnt wasted at all thank you. Nothing was obvious from my post about me personally, You dont know me or my circumstances.

You obviously think you are capable of working ill daughter or not or you wouldnt have wasted your time asking the question. You were worried about losing state benefits, thats all.

Crystal balls do not come as standard on the forum. How is anyone supposed to know that you have an ill daughter if you do not tell us? Advice can only be given on the information provided!

This question is impossible to answer without knowing an awful lot more about your household, income, benefits and circumstances OP.

I have to say, though, a wage of £15k plus working tax credits will be enough to ensure that even if you lose LHA you will still be significantly better off.

As already posted, entitled to.co.uk should help!

By getting a job you will loose your Income support, and possibly some Housing benefit, free school meals if applicable, free dental treatment/prescriptions.

If you work you get wages, working tax credits, all your child maintenance and you keep your child tax credits, child benefit.

Child maintenance doesn't affect your housing benefit ir council tax benefit any longer.

As a side note your little snipe at Mckneff was uncalled for try giving all the relevant info and people will help.

I have to say, I don't see anything wrong with the OP. What is the problem in weighing up the pros and cons before making an informed choice about a return to work?

There seems to be a lot of fear (in my limited experience) of the unknown involved in starting work, particularly amongst people who have not worked for a long period of time. Benefits, rightly or wrongly, are a steady, secure, known source of income. To make the transition from that to working, not knowing how much NI/tax/childcare/ctc/wtc/rent will be coming or going out must be scary, particularly when the average long-term claimant hasn't much in the way of savings to cushion the transition. I don't see how anyone should be expected to make a blind jump into the unknown simply because they can.

Surely answering questions like this in a supportive manner would be more likely to help the OP back to work and self-sufficiency?
