Hi there, i purchased in march a new desktop pc, monitor etc...now when i removed my old processor i just unplugged it and plugged in the new one....so why now can i not get my old processor to connect to internet when i plug it back into my modem, it keeps saying IE cannot display the page! and limited connectivity in the tray bit at the bottom?
Am i missing something important here as its connected to my modem which is working fine with the new PC, or do i need to do some tweaking...all help appreciated thanks

Make/model of this 'modem'?
If you are now wanting to connect two computers, you would need a router to share the bandwidth. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Modem is my virgin media one motorola surboard sb5100 and i don't want to connect two pc's just swap them around whilst i use the old processor which does work...just won't connect. Thanks.0

When you swap the PC's, you will need to power down the modem for a few minutes, then it should work fine when you power it back up. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

Thanks expresso will try that as hubbie has informed me he did not switch anything off when he did it :rolleyes:0

Right i tried this and still did not work, i tried to repair connection in control panel and i got these messages;
Invalid ip address and the network did not assign a network address to the computer???
I know something needs a tweak somewhere but where is the question...help?0 -
Right-click on My Computer, and go to Device Manager. Is there a yellow exclamation mark by Network Devices? If so you probably need the correct drivers.
Was there a cd that came with your modem?0 -
Yes there is an exclamation mark there, by CD do you mean the blueyonder one to install it, as thats all i got from virgin media when got modem as we are talking couple of years back now.
Thanks.0 -
Thats nothing to do with the virgin/blueyonder cd
Thats to do with your computer needed drivers
First stop is try WINDOWS UPDATES via microsoft
Goto CUSTOM and see if there are any HARDWARE updates:idea:0 -
yup, sounds like you'll need to re-install drivers...give it a whirl
BTW, when you say "processor", I take it you mean the actual pc ??......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
Hi yes when i say processor i mean pc lol
tower unit thing.
I know you say it needs drivers, but can i get these without connecting to internet?
I will try the CUSTOM and hardware updates as soon as, thanks.0
