Can I convert a woodburner to a multi fuel?

I have a Stockton Stovax 5 woodburner and would like to know if it can be converted so that I can burn smokeless fuel as well.
Thanks

Normally multifuel stoves have a grate which you remove when you burn wood. Unless you can fit a grate you will not be able to burn smokeless fuel.
  • Is that the only difference?
I'll see if they do a grate that will fit.
I thought it would be something really technical.
    Thanks for your reply.

If Stovax can't help, try a sweep who also installs stoves. It's very unlikely that the difference would amount to much more than the provision of a grate and ashpan.

Most multifuel stoves have locomotive-style rocking grates, but they aren't by any means essential, so you might well (with help and advice) be able to rig-up a free-standing grate to sit within the stove.
  • We have the same stove it can be converted for about £30 I think there is a grate that you can buy

Hi yes you can. I have the Stockton 5 MF. You will need Ash pan (s5.28), ashpan tool (sm55), main grate (s5.53), centre grate (smn37), riddling rod (smn35), riddling knob (smn34) and operating knob (sm63). Details in brackets are the part numbers. To install you will need to remove the log retainer, lower air bricks in the chamber, and the blanking bolt which is near lower left hand corner of the door, so that you can install the riddling rod. If you checkout the stovax/gazco site under the Stockton 5, look at the M/Fuel version it gives brief details of how to do this. Hope it works out.
