Next stage baby milk

Hiya ladies

I havent been on for a while been compeltely wrapped up in home life and the new bubs.

I am hoping you can give me your opinions with regards to hungry baby milk. My bubs is on normal formula at the moment he is 8wks old and currently gets through 8-9 5oz bottle in a 24hr period this means he is feeding every 3 hrs including through the night, I am so tired i am thinking of moving him on to the hungry baby milk to see if it will help him sleep better at night and stay awake during the day. Ive currently got him on aptamil which suits him he never brings up his feed and doesnt suffer with constipation at all i know if i ask the HV she will say leave him be but then they arent the ones who are up 3-4 times a nights for an hr at a time. It really does annoy me that the HV's round here are very young with no kids of their own how can they possibly know how stressfull having a young baby who wont sleep and constantly feeds is?

I have checked the feeding scales on the milk box and it states 5 feeds of 5oz per 24hrs so he is taking almost double that.

So what do you think, am i right to consider putting him on the hungry milk ?

  • Would an 8 week-old baby be able to digest this other milk?

Feeding every 3 hours doesn't seem excessive to me but I'm not the one suffering sleep-deprivation and exhaustion

Both mine were on hungry baby milk from around 4 weeks old - they're now teenagers and seem perfectly undamaged through it. As I recall I got longer sleeps and we were all happier, they dropped the quantites quite quickly as well on the HB milk.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

thanks ladies i am going to take the plunge and swap him once his box of milk has run out. my other two ended up on the next stage milk but they used to scream constantly to be fed which is why i wanted to check as other than feeding every 3 hrs he is a very happy baby. :-) x

    Hi,

I wouldn't put him on the hungrier baby formula as he'll have no where else to go.

Don't worry about the amount he's having it's fine, the packet is just a guideline. You can "fill him up" a little by spreading the feeds out by giving him a little cool boiled water.

My daughter is 11 weeks (tomorrow) and is having 6oz 6/7 times a day. She does sleep through the night though and has done since 6 weeks old. During the day she can be 2 hours between feeds.

Personally Id see how I'd go on with him before putting him on it. I think he'll settle soon and start sleeping during the night anyway.

    Good luck HTH

EDIT : Just to add , I know that you probably already have him in a bedtime routine but if he drinks all of the bottle then increase his bedtime one to 7oz, he'll only drink until he's full anyway. That way it'll encourage him to sleep longer and may help him to sleep throughout the night.

try putting a couple of scoops of hungry milk, and the rest normal milk formula. see how that goes. If you swap him straight over he will get tummy ache and probably get constipated.

If you feel he needs it lolly, then he probably does. The boys did, so far Amber doesn't.

Does he use a dummy? Can you try missing out a night time feed either by giving him water or dummy? Either it won't work because he does need that feed,or it will.

And remember, it doesn't last forever.

A friend who happened to be a health visitor (rather than just a health visitor) reccomended that we did not. Our DD was drinking double the quantity on the box & she said we are better off continuing to just do this). She did give in deph reasons (but it was a couple of years ago now) but I think it was something to do with the hungry baby making them feel full without providing the nutrition of drinking more of the standard milk.

My daughter couldn't take normal SMA so my mum told me to put her on Oster Feed for hungry babies (doesn't exist now, I think it is Cow and Gate). She never looked back - slept through from 6 weeks and was absolutely fine. At a year I put her on cow's milk and again, no problems.

My 7 month Granddaughter's been on SMA hungry baby milk for months now, as she was starving and demanding feeds every 2 hours:o
