  • I am off to a bonfire party tonight. It is not a halloween party thank goodness or I wouldn't go. It appalls me that the commercial section have latched on to the power of evil to make money. I'm all for a laugh and witch hats etc but this is getting out of hand now.
    All Saint's Day tomorrow.

Been a lovely day here and I've been to the market and stocked up on fruit and veg.

    What's evil about Halloween?

as far as I knew it was an old pagan festival (Sahmain?) to celebrate the end of summer, as the days get shorter the "veil between this world and next" is meant to get thinner but why would that be evil?

Is what I thought wrong? I know Sahmain is linked to witches and guess they can be seen as evil..........?

The commercialisation of Halloween bugs the crap out of me mind you - like valentines day etc.

    xxxxxx
    Nevertheless she persisted.

Clever you!!! :T Love the face paints.

    Hello all

Both DD's are poorly, DH is grumpy and I'm trying to smile nicely....it's an effort I can tell you.

No parties here...we're boring....used to "do" halloween when the girls were little but they grew out of it.

Just made a yummy satay sauce for later, going to bake chicken breasts in it and serve with my famous "potato peeling chips" (scrubbed peelings from yesterdays spuds, tossed in chilli oil and baked) ((waste nothing here)).....DD's requested sausage and home made wedges...so that's what they're getting.

Had my parents down for the day yesterday which was lovely, they helped lots with jobs I've not been able to do since DH has been poorly and they snuck £20 in my purse for a treat :o......:T

Looking forward to tonights X Factor - I like "rock week".....

Has anyone seen any good offers on boxes of chocolates? Asda have some 2 for £6, is there anything to beat that anywhere? I need to get a couple of boxes to say thanks to my neighbours for doing my garden. Or if anyone can come up with any other suggestions, there's a woman in her late 70s or a middle aged bloke.

    No......trying to avoid chocolate...

But i did find a bottle of champagne in Morrisons....half price....

I am ashamed to say I bought it....

I don't care..I am on my own with my grandson and as OH has gone golfing and royally peed me off with his antics I thought I deserved a treat.

Well I am at home, on my own, doing nothing this evening...as per....

However, I am trying not to be a miserable cow, have painted one length of skirting board but I prefer doing it in daylight, so will clean kitchen and then possibly order chinese food and have wine.

Diet seems to have gone out of the window slightly, although have been good today so far, and will choose something fairly healthy from the chinese.

Hope everyone is having a good evening! I forgot to buy sweets so I am hiding from the local kids and feeling like a right killjoy! :rotfl:

me too :D OH seems to class 10pm as the new 9pm, previously 8pm each evening these days.

Had a 1 hour standing 'debate' with an old neighbour from hell today. Long story (invoving roofers, a cut thumb and a yellow van) but she has turned into an incredibly irrational, unreasonable, borderline schizophrenic over the years since I moved. I thought she was weird when I was living next door to her!! (but I was rewarded with a bottle of rose for how I handled the situation :rotfl:)

I was also a child of the turnip lantern brigade, I also think that commercialism and marketing has really ruined what used to be a simple and incredibly low key event for kids (if they bothered at all). As a kid we used to play bobbing apples and my mum and dad would carve out a turnip or a swede. That was it! It's just got way out of control.

Still, it keeps the Christmas adverts off the TV for a bit whilst they are banging on about skeleton chocolates and witch beer

Oh it's okay hun, no guilt trip intended - to be honest I am so skint I was a bit worried about affording the petrol anyway, but will come down soon, or you are welcome to come up for a visit...Leeds is great. No really. :rotfl:

(I never did get your message the other day, but assumed from your post you meant you were cancelling, lol. Glad I didn't misunderstand and you were sat there waiting for me!)

We always used to have Halloween parties as kids, I've always rather liked it. The kids have gone to a party tonight, really miss them, but hope they are having fun.

OMG more trick or treaters, this is the 5th lot and I am still not answering - the only thing I have a bag of is onions, and don't think they will want those! :rotfl:

    Hello tricksters and treaters! :hello:

Don't worry Snags about hiding from the trick or treaters 'cause you haven't bought any sweets. I'm doing exactly the same thing. ;)
