  • The assistant is not legally obliged to sell them to you. They have the right to refuse to sell to anyone for any reason. This is because the goods on shelves are what is termed as an invitation to treat. The customer goes into the shop and makes an offer to purchase and the shop choses whether to accept that offer.

How would you have paid for them? I'm sure you can't put 0.03p on your card :rotfl:

But wont that make a hell of a mess with your stock holding?
It was penny stock where I worked because even if it was 1000 items, that only meant it showed up as £10 of "dead" stock on the system.

The retail value of stock isn't something we normally concern ourselves with. It's number of units and cost price....which don't change.

Although one thing we couldn't do was to put the price of new games/software titles up to £9999 to stop people selling them, as we'd have had to declare the value as £10k per unit in transportation, increasing insurance costs or something like that.

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
