Hot water help... Boiler/cylinder?

Hi all.

Just moved house, having a bit of trouble with hot water and boiler.

It seems when running a bath, it only fills about 5 or 6 inch full before we've run out of hot water!

Water is set to come on 2 hours in morning and same at night. its a Gas water heater.

Im going to buy a new cylinder jacket, but surely there should be more hot water than this.

Should i put water on constant? or is something broke?

Thanks in advance

Gas water heater or gas boiler running a CH system?
When it's been heating for two hours, how much of the tank is getting warm?
    make/model of boiler would help.
Cylinder jacket from any plumber's merchant (or DIY shed if you must).

Your problem, from the described symptoms, is unfortunately nothing to with the cylinder jacket.

    So what can it be?

Again tonight, water on 2 hours this morning and night, yet ran a bath and its way under half full and the water has ran cold?

How can i get more water into my cylinder, i take its not filling up fullly? or i have a tiny tank?

Your cylinder is full of scale, which is displacing the volume of available domestic hot water.

Even a standard efficiency cylinder will only take an hour maximum to give you approximately 21 gallons of hot water. You could have your boiler running 24/7 and it would make no difference.

Time for a new cylinder I am afraid. Warn the installer that there is 150lbs of scale to dispose of!

Ah, its a rented property, so can the cylinder be cleaned/flushed out?

And how much is a new tank?

    Thanks again
  • I have to agree it sounds scaled up, As it rented property then inform the landlord and let him sort it out. I think as a guide you would be looking at about £550 + For supply and fit of a new cylinder.
As said though it's the landlords problem.
