It is actually Dell (and other manufacturers) who are running the free Windows 7 upgrade scheme. CPW don't see any of the P&P money.

(Plus, I believe Windows 7 discs for the UK & Europe are shipped out of Ireland. Could be wrong, but I'm fairly sure they are)

If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

Still no idea how Toshiba can charge £28 P&P (they're the most expensive, I think)

Yup, 27 or 28 for Toshiba, 22 for Sony, yet 12 for acer.

When I sell a PC with the upgrade I mention the postage too, because the last thing I want is a bunch of people coming in moaning at me for something they THINK is to do with me.

Someone tried complaining to me that their software hadn't arrived yet (they'd ordered it from HP). Remember, the MANUFACTURERS are providing the offer, not retailers. It's as much use moaning to the retailer about the contract you've formed with HP, Toshiba or whoever as it is trying to get a refund from sainsburys for the plane tickets you bought from Virgin.

So far, I have people coming in saying many things. Mostly, "I was told I could come into store and pick up a free upgrade"....but also "I was told an update would come on my system".

I despair of my colleagues sometimes.

  • Hi there everyone I too have experienced this problem but with Dell, I recently bought a Dell Inspiron which at the time said "free" upgrade to windows 7 when you buy this now so no mention of the £20 ood of P&P. I have sent numerous emails to Dell customer service but that is to me a misnomer as customer service seems lets say lax, all they do is send automated emails back and forth with no effort of trying to resolve this issue which I am going to take all the way, I have called the Dell number as well which I had been on hold for easily half an hour when someone answered in an Indian accent which I wouldn't mind if she had resolved the issue but what they just put me on hold again for another half an hour so I then hung up, this is an 0844 number so I'm losing money for no help and no customer service. I have also contacted consumer advice Scotland who said I should write a formal recorded delivery letter stating I want the advertised offer within 14 days, I have also contacted BBC's watchdog programme as I know I'm not the only person to think this is unfair and is going through the same problems with Dell's customer care (hope mentioning the BBC is not a no no on here) I would just like anyone else with this problem to write to watchdog or lets get together and set this wrong right as I want my windows 7 CD free as advertised at time of purchase. Sorry if this seems a rant but I am really hacked off with Dell's atrocious customer service. Any help would be appreciated.

The item IS free. The postage isn't and also isn't advertised as that.

If you don't want to pay postage then go and get it yourself if it will stop the pointless whine.

Pointless, is it, may be to you, but .....................................

funny that as both myself and "THOUSANDS" of other are getting a £15 refund
    I'm actually getting £30 (2 x£15)

due to CPW admitting there mistake
