CPW "Free" windows 7 upgrade, now £15

There's a large thread/offer on HUKD for a dell laptop 17" inspiron from CarPhone Warehouse (now expired, sorry)
part of the offer was a free upgrade to windows 7
now on certain screen shots it is "clearly" printed as free (no ***** etc)
on others there are *** stating a charge may apply for postage etc

bearing in mind according to at least 1 poster on HUKD
who has stated the above details e.g. clearly stated free with no clauses

surely CPW have advertised a product as free, then free means free, no postage costs

it looks like now a number of people are also querying this
where do I/we stand

any advice would be appreciated

  • To be fair most of these so called free schemes arent free there is a small fee it happend with Vista too

Its a play with words like ISP's use the word 'unlimited' obviously they use the same dictionary as the Tech boys do with 'free' I must get that dictionary some time

understand that, however lets say CPW have sold 200,000 laptops
x that by £15 to ship a disc from the USA

surely they could get them over to the UK in one batch
then £15 becomes, £5 which wouldn't be so bad
  • Thats just the way it operates, I understand your annoyance, but they probably have so get out clause which stipulates the admin fee and like I said others charge too, doesn't make it right but I believe words like 'free' and 'unlimited' should mean just that

The item IS free. The postage isn't and also isn't advertised as that.

If you don't want to pay postage then go and get it yourself if it will stop the pointless whine.

I've been tempted to get one of those phones that are advertised with "Chat for free FOR EVER on windows live mobile" because unless they're going to migrate the mobile network to whatever planet we have to move to to escape the sun exploding in however millions of years, and unless the mobile networks we use and Live messenger still exists for eternity, they're actually lying.

If I find the secret to immortality i'll take them up on their offer, then take them to court in a few million years.

It's £12.73 and it's because microsoft outsourced the sending of the discs to another company who will be making a profit.. but it covers processing fees as well as postage.

just go to Currys/PCworld etc and buy a copy from there.

all free windows 7 upgrades have a postage cost to cover P&P as already said.

Did you not read the OP's post? It was supposed to be bundled with a laptop purchase.

just a bit of an update, going from the thread off HUKD
it appears now a few people "HAVE" been given refunds of the £15

others are getting told conflicting tales, that being
CPW are aware of this mess/problem/issue
as above + should be resloved by middle of next week
CPW are washing there hands of this , contact dell

so once you start to see people getting a refund for kicking up a fuss
    what would you do ??????

no doubt by a few posts, they would just pay the £15, or go and collect it :mad::mad:
