I, too, gave up anti-perspirants following the recent glut of media articles linking aluminium in conventional deodorants to breast cancer.

Having sampled a number of natural / aluminium-free products, my personal recommendation is for Bionsen, which is billed as a 100% natural anti-odorant for the whole family - which, roughly translated, means it's good for all smelly body parts and not just arm pits!

According to the blurb on the back of the packaging, Bionsen prevents the proliferation of odour-causing bacteria in a totally natural way. Sprayed onto clean skin, it gives a pleasant sensation of freshness and confidence that lasts all day. The active minerals act as an extremely efficient bactericide, without interfering with the natural physiological balance of the skin.

The product comes in a handy carrying-size spray bottle containing crystals which you activate by simply adding water. I can also vouch for the fact that the bottle can be refilled up to 5 times without losing its effectiveness.

It's normally priced at £2.99, but I bought mine on a 3-for-2 at Boots.

Can I also warn everyone to avoid Dr Hauschka's (very expensive) natural deodorant, which, quite literally, is the pits?

I was wondering if anyone had used one of these as an alternative to deodorant?

Thanks lil_me, I got one then dropped it and smashed it, doh! I am still using a lump of it but I have ordered another. I am so clumsy!

  • Mine has gone black in places - no I'm not dirty! Especially where it was attached to the wind up thingy. It isn't anymore.

a chunk of aromaco from Lush cost me about £4 and has lasted over 9 months so far. No smelly pits throughout the hot summer or on holiday in 35 degrees. Their aromacreme works well and smells gorgeous but a lot of people have had a reaction to it so ask for a sample before buying.

I bought one off ebay and I've been using it every day for about a year and it still looks the same as it did the day I bought it.

  • Also, you can buy a spray version, which is basically a little squirty bottle with the crystals in the bottom, topped up with water.

There is a coupon for £1 off one of these (Bionsen) in the current Boots health and beauty mag. So its £2.99 instead of £3.99.
Bought one last week but haven't tried it yet.

I have tried most types and makes of deodorant trying to find one that actually does work.
The driclor and triple dry I thought were the most effective.
Last week I bought the Bionsen crystals in a squirty bottle. I wasn't expecting much from these but I was very pleasantly suprised.
They are great and I have had no BO problem whilst using this.
It can also be used on feet and intimate areas.
  • I use Aloe Evershield which costs £5.96 lasts me over 6 months, no white stains. Its a deodorant.

I have seen the stones advertised on Ebay but never bought one as wasn't aware that they actually worked. I will have to give them a try.
