I second Barry Norman pickles. We bought jars and jars of them when Tesco were selling them at 10p I think a couple of years ago, but usually very expensive. Very spicy the ones we had.

Also vote for Garners, they're occasionally available at a really good price at BM if you have one close by. Then you'll also have a couple of really big pickle jars for next year if you get round to making them.

Thanks to all for the suggestions. It looks like Garners get the majority verdict. Do any of the big supermarkets sell them?

  • Another vote for Garner's (and I usually make my own). But also try Tesco Borrettane onions (they will be with the olives and antipasti). They are sweet but absolutely delicious.

Another vote for Garners - I got some from work last Christmas while they were 3 jars for £1.

I know this is a money saving site but now I know what they are like, I don't mind paying the £1.50 a jar in Asda etc...
  • Are Garners hot I love hot pickled onions
