Hang in there its well worth the wait, also highly recommended you do a clean install and don't mess around with the 'upgrade feature' :)

(yes this is very easy to do with 'upgrade' editions or full editions, done it twice myself already)

No, but I am waiting for a patch to stop Windows Explorer crashing intermittently! Maybe I should've waited till SP1 is released...

I've been using Win 7 for a while and haven't had any problems with IE yet. Maybe some other software is causing the problem?
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Got mine absolutely no problem installing once I've made a back up of my stuff.

i'm not very computer literate, and dont want to wreck my 3 week old laptop when win7 finally arrives from acer - had email to say its on its way.

do i just copy my spreadsheets and pictures - then do a new install? ive seen comments about driver cards etc (???) not working?

    thanks

I've seen some glitches too, Windows explorer is not Internet explorer.

Ideally havve a second computer to hand.

Locate the Acer support website and check they have Win7 drivers for your laptop/all the hardware it came with

copy everything you want to keep off the laptop pre-upgrade

clean install Win7 (wiping the entire harddrive)

    activate and update

Install drivers, it becomes more complicated if your laptop provider doesn't have all the required drivers in one place as you then have to hunt them down from the individual component manufacturers site, also googling the make of your laptop and "win 7 upgrade" will often turn up forum posts on other boards of people who have tried it before and can provide feedback on weather it "worked first time, all drivers were on the acer website" or "worked ok but i hod to go find driver X from intel/Nvidia/Creative etc etc"

Basically all I'm doing is copying all my files to an external hard drive. I mainly use portable applications apart from security software so it might be worth while noting you applications down backing up you drivers is a good idea too. Then I'm doing a complete fresh install.

Or maybe you have installed something that is causing it {Explorer crashes in Windows 7}??

Quite possible, although the problems occurred before I had installed much software. I first noticed the problem after installing Windows Live Messenger - maybe just a coincidence, though.

The other problem I have is that network traffic just stops intermittently. Everything shows as connected, no problems diagnosed, but no network connection at all. Then it restarts after fiddling around (repairing the connection, flushing DNS, etc.) for a few minutes. XP and Linux (on the same PC) connect perfectly every single time.

Hopefully it won't be long till SP1 is out...

just an update, still waiting delivery. Pc world say contact Acer, Acer say contact mmedia, can only contact mmedia by email and that is a waste of time only get automated reply. So it seems I cannot do anything but wait and hope eventually a copy arrives unless anyone can suggest another course of action

Hmmm... just a thought, but could you go back to PC World and say you want to arrange a return of your laptop for a full refund because you have not been provided with a copy of Windows 7 a whole month after it was released, therefore they have commited an offence under the Trade Descriptions Act.

If they resist, you could say that you would be happy to take them to court, but if they can arrange for the Windows 7 DVD to delivered within 7 or 10 days you would of course be happy to leave it. After all, you only want what they promised.

If they say that they don't have any control over third parties, remind them that the provsion of Windows 7 was in the description of the laptop that THEY sold. They are responsible for ensuring the whole package is delivered. If necessary insist that they get the shop manager. Just be calm and firm.

Hopefully that will spurn them on a bit! Good luck :-)
