Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Friday 30th October. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.

Morning OS friends,

Hester - That is outrageous! I am so sorry.
Cranky - Well done on cooking for yourself and meeting someone in the same situation as you, I am sure it all helps a little.
sistercas - No, an operation isn't possible right now
taplady - will keep Janet in my thoughts
kjsam - congrats to your daughter on reaching 18.:D
Bitsy - Sorry to hear you are having a bad time with your son. *hugs*. And like you, we buy our potatoes in sacks from a local farm up the road for just £6.
Bargain - hope yesterday went as well as it could
Sarah - So sorry to hear about your problems with Gran.. do you know what triggers off the drinking? It's an odd age to start when you haven't drunk most of your life and it must be so upsetting for you and your dad.
Piglet - So pleased your mums' operation was a success.

Hope today finds everyone doing well. Have been up for about 10 mins but Tris was online waiting for me for a change. He has to have another op soon which he is dreading.

I was exhausted yesterday, I think all the unaccustomed walking wore me out, plus I was stiff from sitting in the car. Oh yes, the car. We were told by motability that the only car we could have was a MB Vito van. So we ordered it finally and will have it in January. Now we just have to work out how to find £3300. *sighs*. My OH worked so hard to start paying off all his debts and now between us we may have to get a loan. It's a bit disheartening to say the least but we do have to have a car and motability is such a great scheme if you aren't a difficult shoe to fit as we are!

My father is coming for a late lunch today before he travels back so I am making my coronation chicken again (I mentioned it when he was around the other night and apparently it's one of his faves) only with turkey; plus a huge salad with a nice dressing and some big chunks of the home made granary loaf that is burbling away in the BM right now. I haven't got as far as dinner but fancy baked potatoes so will go from there.

With love, light and hugs.giffor everyone who would like one.

  • Morning MSD & all who follow
Last day of the half term break today, back to work full time on Monday.
I'm not sleeping very well, still devastated about hubby not getting the job, I could kick myself as it all becomes clearer. I should have realised he had no chance a few weeks ago. Still, I'm delighted he didn't get it, I was told yesterday that I'm delighted, or else!
I have two hot spots left to clear up in the house & they won't take long. I need to pop to the bank, I've just checked my bank & they have re-instated a direct debit that was cancelled 2 months ago, so I need to sort that out.
    Have a great day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Good morning Diva, Hester, and all who follow.

Diva - hope you can find the money needed for the car; have a great lunch with your Dad.

Hester - hope you manage to get some sleep.

Well, yesterday was another dust-filled day but I've been told that that bit is over (at least for a week or so) so I can have a good clean up today plus I have to do some ironing because the ironing fairy didn't turn up in the night and do it for me.

Dinner tonight is something to do with chicken legs and wings - I'll probably cook them with tarragon and have them with salad and some potatoes. The potatoes here are really really tasty - just need boiling and they taste as if they already have butter on them. Lunch will be home made leek soup, breakfast will be porridge now that I've finally found some over here! We brought a load back with us when we visited the UK in August, but it has been slowly running out and I've been slightly panicking but, luckily, I've found some that's just as good (twice the price, but still good and still cheaper than other cereals).

Well, I'd better get the BM and the WM on and get the day started - after another cuppa, of course!

  • Morning Hester and Mioliere!

Hester honey - I am so sorry you are still so upset about your husbands job and I fully understand why, but if you don't mind me saying, I hope you don't let it affect your sleeping much longer as everything always looks and feels worse when one is tired and it makes it harder to feel better about things if you see what I mean.

    Morning peeps.

Looks foggy out there, but certainly not cold. Day off so I might go and test drive some cars. OH has now realized that her 14 yr old Fiesta is falling to bits, and does not think that I am just saying that to get her to consider something else that costs money.

We are out for a meal tonight which will be welcome. Need to go shopping too, the cupboards and fridge are pretty empty and the kids are moaning now. There is plenty to eat it's just not the right stuff as far as their concerned.

Coffee is on, so have a good morning everyone

    Hi MSD
Believe me I'd sleep if I could, unfortunately by 4 o'clock every morning I'm wide awake. I should probably add that my neighbour works for a transport company & leaves for work around 4ish, part of his job description seems to be the requirement that he moves a couple of very large & heavy items downstairs, by bumping them they down every step of their staircase on his way out the door, hence my 4am wakeup call

    Morning everyone.
Been awake since 5am and for once it's now down to the kids  Didn't manage to get back off although I lay there til 6am when the kids finally stirred.

Looking forward to today with mindee. Got friends and their children coming over and even though its not a halloween get together or anything I made extra pumpkin templates/masks for the other kids to decorate. They all love their glueing and sticking (as do I ;)). Just got to cut up some orange crepe paper and we'll be sorted :D

Got some reduced bread when I popped to Mr S last night so no need for BM for a couple of days. Bacon and courgette pasta bake for tea tonight.
More washing to go on which means the airer will have to stay up for a while longer grrrrrrrr. It was easier when it was just 3 of us - for someone so young DD don't half create an awful lot of washing

Diva - Sorry you've got so much money to find. Hope your dad has enjoyed his stay with you.

mioliere - My ironing fairy is still in bed, bless him ;) He does it all for me once a week. Yes I am veeeeeeeeeeery lucky :rotfl:

Hester - sorry to hear of your early morning alarm clock. Bit unfair isn't it.

janiebaby - hope your back pain eases for you x

Hugs to those that need them.
Have a good day OS or not.

  • Good morning all.
We had a great day swimming yesterday-well the kids did, we were in the pool for 2 hours!!!!!!!!!!
Our plan for a cheap trip to the cinema today has come to an abrupt end as the cheap show (95p each) isn't on at our cinema today-the website was very misleading. So we are going to see 'fantastic mr fox' and full price. DD has not been before so I'm just hoping that she will tolerate the very loud volume. I have warned her and told her she will get used to it and doesn't need to sit with her hands over her ears. Hopefully we are going to pizza hut for lunch after so we'll probably have yesterdays tea today as we just had toast yesterday after not finishing our lunch until after 3pm!!!
I must get some washing sorted and on before we go out this morning.
Hope everyone has a good day.

    Morning all
Last day of the half term holiday here, children are going to play golf with their grandad today. I need to go to the bank and then go to do some food shopping. Last night dinner was stew and dumplings (although no dumpling for me), it turned out just right and was very tasty, nobody wanted a dessert! Haven't really got a master plan for tonight so will see if I can find something when I'm shopping. I'm part the way through blitzing youngest son's bedroom, that's going to take a while, but should be able to make good headway whilst they are out today. I will make some more hob nobs today as they went down a storm and only lasted 3 days - but they really loved them. Have made several HM loaves in the BM this week so may make another today just to see us through the weekend. Not very OS but have booked to go out for Sunday lunch at local eaterie, carvery and very nice and not to pricey either. I've been off this week and haven't really done that much out and about with the children as have had 2 appointments this week so felt they deserved a treat and they like going out to eat (as of course do I, no prep or washing up!). I'm still on leave next week, as have no childcare for before and after school as minder is on holiday, will finish the jobs that haven't got done this week! Lunch for me today will be my fav salad, don't appear to have lost anything this week, haven't really had anything bad just had some different things, but weight loss stopped once before and I seemed to stay the same for a week or two then the loss started up again, just need to stay focused and stick with it, as really want that stone off before Xmas. That's about if from me, have a good weekend everyone, keep safe and well, hugs to those that need them.
