BT Late payment charge (merged threads)

But your question has been asked and answered in this very thread - a simple scroll up would give you your answer!

Simple reasoning - bill is issued, you have time to pay it, and then a reminder, and then you get a late payment charge for not upholding your side of the contract.Comping wins this month: 2 x business class flights anywhere we like | Horse vitamins (!) | New kettle | Motorcycling prints | Signed LPs | Thanks to all!0 -
The money-saving answer would be for you to change to paying by Direct Debit, save £1 per month on your line rental and, thereby, 'recover' the penalty charge in 5 months.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

I want to fight this £5. I do not see why this multinational should be allowed to charge people in financial difficulties. I just wanted to know if anyone had ever fought this before. I have some bad debts in my business, but I don't charge them late payments.
There is little above but a load of self-righteousness, so far as I can see.
Oh, well, if that's the consensus, I shall just make a complaint to Offcom, and even if I lose, and write to Sir whatever his name is. It will cost BT a lot more to deal with this, which no doubt will manifest itself in the next invoices that the self-righteous receive. As they say: "Don't get mad. Get even."
Direct debit is our of the question. I had a huge company raid my bank account - cleaned it out completely - back in 1985. And you should have heard their attitude when I rang them up about it. "Oh, we'll just hang onto it and knock it off your next bill." I have not paid anyone by direct debit since. Now what was the name of that company? BB? No, that can't be right. TB? No, it couldn't be that...To buy or not to buy, need not be in question

Did you bother to ring up and tell them you were having difficulties with the bill? If you had done, they would have given you a postponed payment date, or offered a plan.
Frankly, it simply sounds like you couldn't be bothered paying the bill on time nor getting in touch to ask for a bit longer (which BT happily do) - and now you're whinging because you've been caught out.
Why should you be treated any differently? It's part of your contract to pay your bills within a reasonable time, you're given weeks to do it, there are loads of options on how to pay the bill, and you've failed to do anything about it. It's not like BT have put the charge on unlawfully.Comping wins this month: 2 x business class flights anywhere we like | Horse vitamins (!) | New kettle | Motorcycling prints | Signed LPs | Thanks to all!0 -
Then you should have contacted your bank and used the DD guarantee scheme, the bank would have refunded your money and then the company would have to find other means of taking payment.
You aren't going to get far chasing £5, as it's not an unfair amount for late payment.
You seem like a very arrogant person, people often don't like helping those who are arrogant. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

'There is little above but a load of self-righteousness, so far as I can see.'
Nothing self-righteous about paying a bill on time.
Indeed, I'd probably lean towards your argument of 'I didn't pay the bill on time, I'm not paying the penalty because why should I?' being the more self-righteous.Comping wins this month: 2 x business class flights anywhere we like | Horse vitamins (!) | New kettle | Motorcycling prints | Signed LPs | Thanks to all!0 -
I have just had a £10 charge for not paying my business line bill on time. I never had a red bill or a phone reminder, but since I was ill during the time since the bill it wasn't top of my priority list. However - as I make very few calls - the vast majority of the bill is line rental in advance, so although they want payment, it's for something that they have not actually yet delivered...0

Give them a ring, and see if they can waive it. Bit different if you were ill! But they've always charged in advance.Comping wins this month: 2 x business class flights anywhere we like | Horse vitamins (!) | New kettle | Motorcycling prints | Signed LPs | Thanks to all!0 -

get a life and pay the fiver and dont be late again. Is your life that sad that you would waste your time complaining here and complaining there to find at the end of it you still owe 5 pounds.
God I hope I never end up that sad.
Its simple pay your bill on time.0
