PC taken to the tip by mistake - please help!

Hi, we are in the process of having a massive clearout, and I mean massive. Anyway, I had an old PC with 7 years worth of baby, holiday, Christmas photos on it - my boyfriend has mistakenly taken it to our local tip/recycle centre.

Does anyone know what the procedure is for items in one of these places please? He threw it in the main refuse bit with a load of other stuff at 5pm today, the place closed at 8pm and we've only just realised what's happened.

I'm gutted, absolutely gutted. There were precious photos on there that I'll never get back.

What are our chances of getting the pc back, does anyone here know?

We plan on being there when they open tomorrow....

If it went into one of the skips there is a chance that it is in a land fillnow or on its way SORRY.
ut if it is still at the center just explain what has happened and if need be phone and talk to a manager.
Spending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.

Don't they normally expect you to put a pc in a seperate section for recycling? Certainly at our local dump the would get !!!!ed off with you if you chucked a pc into the general waste.

I know this won't help you now, but always back up important docs/photos on a totally separate hard drive.
I have 4500 photos on my PC AND backed up on two other hard drives.

    Good Luck !

They normally remove electrical stuff, ie, washing machines, fridges, lawn movers PC's, TVs etc anything like that, and put it on the side, as they sell it to certain firms who then sell it on to third world companies.
The chances are it will still be there but put aside, as they normally wait till they get a fair amount of white goods/electrical goods before someone comes and picks it up.
Let us know how you get on.

At our local amenity tip, computers have to be placed on special shelves away from general electrical stuff. Apart from anything else, the main skips are regularly crushed down by a large excavator type machine to make more room. If this has happened to your computer, I would not put money on the hard disk data being recoverable.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
